SANTO DOMINGO.- The ruling PLD party yesterday denounced the unfolding of a plan starting today aimed at discrediting its candidate president Leonel Fernandez, on the part of the opposition PRD and in that regard file a complaint before the Central Electoral Board.
"The PRD leadership sets out to unfold via the different media a dirty and perverse campaign against president Leonel Fernandez and his family and some of his collaborators," said PLD chief Francisco Javier Garcia in a press conference.
He mentioned among the actions the PRD would allegedly carryout, the mimicking of Fernandez’s voice, for which he brought the same foreign technicians it used in the 2004 elections, to air the chief executive’s alleged conversations, and other false portrayals.
"Those are actions the PRD is repetitive in doing. Whenever there are elections, on May 14 they’ve accustomed us to that type of practice. They’re going to implement the same team they used in the 2004 campaign tomorrow, for that reason we’re going ahead so the nation is alert before this recurrent situation," he said.
As far as the purchase of cedulas, Garcia said "the PRD has set out on that task in a frank state of desperation," and cited the case of one Yorki Figuereo, from who were seized seven cedulas of people in the Southwest among other documents.

"Please, don't let the wicked and the sinful get me in the home stretch," Leonel cries and pleads.
"Father, why do thou forsake me?" Leonel asks, feigning despair.
After the last polls, the last rallies, and last hurrahs (except for the interminable and tiresome ads), Leonel still maneuvers tactically to keep the PRD on the defensive, like "No, it's not true. We haven't done and we ain't gonna do what Leonel says."
These tactics by Leonel are not just a show of stamina, they also show agility.
