SANTO DOMINGO.- On Friday International companies will conduct the first exit polls during Dominican Republic presidential elections, though results can’t be presented in the country before the Central Electoral Board (JCE) issues its bulletins.
The companies Penn and Schoen and Gallup will conduct the surveys in the different voting centers, and pledged to carry them out under the strictest measures of confidentiality and discretion in adherence to the Electoral Law.
In that regard JCE president Julio Cesar Castaños yesterday said surveys by companies and civil society will be allowed, as long as they aren’t made public.
Andrew Claster, of Penn and Schoen, said to newspaper Diario Libre they’ll conduct a rough estimate, whose results will be presented to the international media. “Yes. We do make an exit poll and I can share the results with the international press."

We both know that the results shown by polls depend a great deal on the questions asked and in the manner asked.
That being said, we also know that results are skewed in favor of any incumbent vieing for re-election. Had it not been for the "overseers" of the last Presidential election, we would have had a continuation of the Hipolito Administration, since their plan was to take the election by force. Thank God that plan was thwarted by the "overseers" in its initial stages and the real results were forthcoming.
This latest effort to intimidate the voters by the PRD by having "observers" of high military rank, although retired, is an example of a desparate, and equally forceful attempt to gain the election in their favor and one which, I hope will reveal the extent to which that party will go in order to get back into a position of power.

No doubt the results of the exits have been disseminated to the major candidates, the JCE, major outlets of the international capitalist media and the US Embassy in Santo Domingo.
But not a word has leaked out as of 6:06 PM.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Exit polls show President Leonel Fernandez could win a third term on Friday and capture enough votes to avoid a run-off.
Fernandez obtained 56 percent of votes based on interviews with almost 19,000 voters at 100 stations across the country, said Andrew Claster, vice president of Washington-based Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates.
Construction magnate Miguel Vargas captured 39 percent of votes and populist candidate Amable Aristy got 4 percent, he said.
The poll has a margin of error of less than plus or minus 1 percentage point, and does not include results from overseas polls.

Polls closed at 6:00 PM.
Official results are due between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM if the scanners don't break down.
Penn has a history ... e.g., Venezuela, August 2004 ... of dishonest exits.
But Gallup is more dishonest than Penn.
Penn's exit uses a large sample of 19,000 and claims a margin of error of 1 point.
This means that if there is ANY truth in the Penn exit at all ... Leonel got it ... because his margin of victory at 56% [ almost 6 points ahead] is way outside of the margin of error of 1 point.
But the Gallup should be out soon if the officials don't beat Gallup.
If you have some info on the results, come on with it or shut both of your holes.
The PRD did a little better, by 4 points, than I expected and PRSC a little worse, also by 4 points, if the prelims hold.
