SANTO DOMINGO.- In what could be the election campaign’s final survey before the election on Friday president Leonel Fernandez’s commanding lead in this week’s 3 other polls shrinks around 5 percentage points to 50.2 percent, opening the possibility of a second ballot.
The Centro Economico del Cibao survey says Fernandez’s closest rival, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, of the PRD party, has 39.1 percent support, and the candidate of the PRSC, Amable Aristy, is third place with 7.1 percent.
The survey, done from May 10 to 12 with 1,400 eligible voters, has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points.

LMAO there are dominicans that i have spoken to, that have been receiving monies and waving Purple flags.
But at the same time, they are not going to Vote, for the purple. They say that, they are just soaking every peso, that they can, get from the PLD, since its "Our Monies" to begin with anyways.
That's what i have been told, whether it is true or not, i do not know. Will have to just wait and see, what happens.

If this is accurate, and the key word there is IF, this means that 39.1 percent of the population want to return to the failed strategies of Mejia and the thievery of the PRD. If this is true my estamation of the Dominican intellect drops off the chart.

juanb,
Just because, People are in the same party, does not mean that are the same.

The only shame about all this is,
that a man like Guillermo Moreno, will eventually have to do something unthinkable,
join forces with some party,
taking a look at the actual PLD, Juan Bosch founded in early 70's if I recall well,
and it took 20 or more years for that party to reach power,
therefore, something really dramatic must take place to see the MIUCA reach the same plateau,
otherwise , a mind like Guillermo will languish without offering his value to the country.

I have heard so many rumors lately about so many wrong doings,
it's appalling such things could be really occurring, however, from both parties,
PRD the worst of all them, and PLD, second worst for their arrogance and blunt thievery,
nothing could be doubted.
God save us once and for all, and if all Dominicans want a change, a real one, and scape from so much corruption, there is only one choice.
Guillermo Moreno.

Mayor of Montellano defects to the opposition
One week before the presidential elections, Graciela Fermín, the Mayor of Montellano and member of the PLD (liberal party) has written a letter to the President, in which she expresses her affection for Leonel. However, she also writes that she has no choice but to resign from the party. In her fight against job-hunting and corruption she has repeatedly asked the party leaders for assistance. Despite the fact that she has provided hard evidence that money has been spent illegally and is often wasted, and emphasised the fact that she faces hard opposition to reduce these wastages, she feels let down by the party leaders.

Cintinue...............
Now, at the end of her tether, she has decided to change her allegiance and support the PRD (revolutionary party) headed by presidential candidate Miguel Vargas. The PRD party leaders are delighted by her defection and have promised her a good position if Miguel Vargas is elected president. But Graciela Fermín says that she will continue as Mayor of Montellano.
She loves the town and its residents. Most residents clearly support her and are very impressed with her efforts on behalf of the town and its population.
In the meantime the Minister for Tourism, Mr Félix Jiménez, has had an interview with Graciele, in an attempt to reach a solution. For the PLD party leaders Graciele's defection could not have come at a worse time, as they can do without this negative worldwide publicity.

Anybody else find something odd about a PLD member defecting to the PRD over a corruption issue. Seems to me that going to the PRD for their honesty is like going to the equator for the cool breezes and snowfalls. If she had gone to any other party I could believe in her sincerity. But going to the PRD I would think there was some other, possibly economic reason.

I was speaking with a few friends from rural areas and they mentioned that they had received money for their Cedula like RD$500.00.
I guess the idea behind the cedula buying, is to prevent people from voting in an area thought to favor the opposition party.
I would think they would have to buy a hell of a lot of Cedulas to make for this to make any difference in the outcome.
I am sort of stumped on this one..

Jander,
I just ask my wife if this was true, she said that in every election election, there are people that sell there cedula and then they return it back to them, afterwards.
