SANTO DOMINGO. – Former Montecristi province (northwest) senator Bernardo German was arrested early Thursday for his alleged connection with the shooting which left three dead and three wounded in nearby Villa Vásquez township, said Assistant prosecutor Cesarina Minaya.

She said around 2 a.m. police and military agents surrounded German’s house and using a loudspeaker asked him to surrender, but when he refused fired tear gas forcing him out together with more than 20 people who accompanied him.

Corporal Espinal Gonzales of the region’s Police headquarters in Montecristi said 23 people are being held for questioning, and an unspecified number of vehicles and weapons were seized, which according to local media include an AK-47 assault rifle.

President Leonel Fernandez’s campaign chief, Francisco Javier Garcia, called the shooting an attack which killed former of the ruling PLD party deputy Antonio Fernandez.

Carlos Polanco, a member of the PLD, and Isidro Polanco, of the opposition PRD party, also died.

I cannot believe this stuff still happens in the 21st Century. More reason for us to rid ourselves of these analfabetas (animales) politico as soon as possible. If we don't force change in these beasts -- they're going to continue ruining our population, society, and culture. Amazing!

2am, and 20 people!!!!!!....in Da house....? They should have done a Waco Texas burn out on these "analfabetos".

This "analfabeto" was planning something big I'am sure, thank God they caught him right away. Give this creep and his 20 analfabeta associates life in prison or something worse. These are the people that like to ruin progress in DR every 4 years, and he has already ruined 3 lifes, and 3 families, and 3 generations.......pathetic.

This is why people cannot trust any politico party becasue of useless leeches like this who keep sucking out the hopes of the political system in DR.

undercover;

Since I'm from Waco, Texas and witnessed first hand the "goings-on" of that situation, I must come to the defense of the ATF and other Federal agencies involved in that "fiasco".
The people within the compound did, in fact, set fire to their own buildings and kill their own people rather than surrender to the authorities.
Those within were as fanatic as their leaders andlike the "Jones People" in Guyana (South America) took that way out of the conundrum of conflict with the Federal authorities.
The Feds were in no way responsible, even indirectly, with that infamous situation. What the Feds tried to do was to eliminate the arsenal contained within the compound, the presense of which was a threat against the surrounding communities.
Please check out the total facts before spreading rumors any further.

You are correct Bill however the Grassy Knoll people will say it so often it becomes believed by people who are less informed....The prime example of this Grassy Knoll lie is the horrible unjust inhumane studies at Tuskegee ...Just try to get a truthful explanation of that story ...it has been twisted so much by morons to suit their purposes

Hmm,

I beleive to this day there is still a lot of controversy around Waco.

I don't beleive everything I read but the feds were trying everything possible to get the "Davidians" to surrender.

6 years after there was this: r Attorney General Janet Reno talked about the new investigation into the FBI's role in the Branch Davidian standoff and fire. The FBI is investigating reports that agents used pyrotechnic tear gas canisters hours before the cult's followers were found dead in the smoking remains.

I don't beleive Waco is a good example either.

Remember Elian Gonzales ,now there was a bit of force under Reno's control that could be viewed as excessive..

Jander;
The tear gas cannisters used were not of the pyrotechnic type. That is, there was no fire attending the emmission of the tear gas. I watched this portion on TV from my home in Waco and saw no fire emminating from the sites where the tear gas was seen.
TV station KWTX had 24/7 coverage of the entire situation with telephoto lenses at max, so the images were very sharp and clear.
In addition the Davidians were alreaday dead when the fires started, having been killed by their own people who then committed suicide prior to starting the fires.
There are many people around Waco who symphathized with the Davidians who started many false rumors, principly to cast discredit on the Federal agents. They still do so to this day. I might add that many of these same people are members of the local drug cartel and use any andall occasions to denegrate and discredit the local, State and Federasl Law Enforcement agencies.
For years Waco was known locally as "Little Chicago" and justified.

Where the devil did you get AK-47's from these posts. I reviewed them just to make sure I hadn't missed anything and couldn't find a references to such a weapon.
Enlighten me, please.

There is something that I don´t agree on this article, if is a former senator who was arrested, why does it have to be the picture of Francisco Javier Garcia on the cover? When I first read the letterhead and saw the picture I thought ¨Oh my God¨, what the h(/&%"..

Tassos54;

Sorry. Mea Culpa.
I think I was thinking about the "Branch Davidian" fiasco instead of theOP.
