A plane suspected of carrying drugs was ditched near San Pedro.

SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic has been turned into a far more important drop-off point than Haiti as smugglers fly with impunity into its airspace to transfer South American cocaine, reports Reuters quoting U.S. officials on Thursday.

Lt. Col. James Love of the U.S. Joint Interagency Task Force South in Key West, said "this country has lost the control of its airspace," in an interviewed by Reuters.

Cocaine-laden flights from South America “are soaring as the Dominican Republic becomes the main Caribbean transit route for drugs to the United States,” the officials told Reuters.

According to estimates of the report, a single-engine Cessna flying from Venezuela’s Caribbean coast takes about only seven hours to airdrop cocaine in Dominican territory, where in the last 12 months at least seven major confiscations of the drug have been conducted, with at least three planes either torched or ditched at sea. “The Dominican Republic -- far wealthier and more stable than its neighbor -- is now getting the lion's share of the business.”

It said last year, suspected drug flights into Haiti totaled just 18, while the number to Dominican Republic jumped to 107.

"The drug traffickers are having trouble doing business in Haiti," said lieutenant colonel James Patterson, an aide to Love, quoted by Reuters, when asked why the smuggling business had shifted to the Dominican side of the border. "It's easier, it's cheaper."

Drug traffacing is "the largest Big Business" in the DR. Controlled by a handful of very powerful (weathly) individuals. They will never be caught, as they are far removed for the actual "action". The US continues to support "anti-drug" efforts by supplying high tech equipment, training, funds, etc. which is a joke. Politicos are happy to receive anything the USA wishes to provide, as they (Politicos) benefit from these gifts. Efforts by Love and Pattereson are semi-controlled by the jefes in the DR, therefore, they will never be too succesful. Sacrificial "BUST" are made public to appease the "bankers", the good old USA.

Drugs are a business just like anything else. Here in NY it's the biggest business, and without it, the Stock market would crash. Banks get about 1 trillion every year just from drug laundering in the U.S. And I'm sure without drugs the Dominican republic would collapse too. And it will be like this until all drugs are legalized I int the United States, the worlds number 1 market. So we should welcome all the drugs and make all the money and build our economy.

This is very easy to analyse ,does not take a rocket scientist. DR is not controlled by the American
as Haiti is . Don't forget we have in Haiti over 14,000 American troops checking them over or as invaders for quite a while .

Just to proove to you that no matter how bad the American occupation is under the" UN shield "it has to be better than those corrupted military high rancking officers in DR armed forces. !8 as opposed to 107air drops in DR. This explain it all.

Why don't you tell it as it is Lt Col. James Love, Lt.Col James Patterson? The distance is the same since it is all one Island except in DR they get away with it.You don't dare to say what am saying since you don't want to hurt their feelings if they have any and would lose cooperation from DR military and police.

There is no reason to have all these when DR just purchased Brazilian made planes to shoot them down or at least intercept them and force them down to the nearest airport.Give us a better excuse!!!

TAR:
To begin with there are very few US Troops in Haiti. The "policing action" is carried out by Chilean Troops under the UN, not by US Troops. If there wasn't so much political andsocial unrest in Haiti there wouldn't be ANY troops there. When your "free and independent" Haitians learn to gevern themselves, quit denuding their forrests, start planting andtending edible crops, quit depending o handouts from the rest of the world, andstart taking care of their country, then maybe someone will take you seriously.
I would submit that the reason the"drug traffic" has shifted to the DR has to do with the Haitian population stealing theproduct from the intended recipients in Haiti. They are pretty good at that type of action since thepolice ae too afraid to enforce law andorder; why do you think theUN has had to step in and try to control the unruly mobs to begin with??
As to you inference of the US Military involvement, you're full of $%it andstupid to begin with.

Mr, ThelmoAlmeydaRancier grow up, there is no US troops in Haiti, they are all in Irak, read or watch the news before you go blaming uncle sam, I say to you sir, that the only reason the smuggler change route is like Texas bill said "they get rob or kill in Haiti" but not only that, they blend-in in DR which is hard to detect by the authorities and other criminal trying to take away the goods unless they open their mouth an the accent come out.

I dunno if its good to have drug smugglers blending in DR that well. Eventually the drugs will trickle down to the general population, nothing of that nature will bring prosperity to a country. If anything, the future of the country, is deteriorating by such activities. It will only bring more crime in DR.

Texas Bill
You made valid points about haiti. The haitian government and haitians themselves need to shift their thoughts and focus on developing the country in the future. Honestly, the police aren't really afraid, if you read why they US booted Aristide out, he was too connected to the drugs coming in the US. And the police or military was practically nonexistent because Aristide wanted to prevent any more coups. Its not that the cops are afraid of the haitian public, there aren't that many cops, and the few that are there are corrupted. No matter what, i don't think drugs should be on the island

I hope u know of a South American country named, Brazil. It is technically considered the 2nd country with the largest population of people of african descent in the world. It is the Black capital of south america in my opinion. The last time i checked it has the largest economy in South America. I think your theory is flawed. DR is not a WHITE country, it is lighter, but haitians in my opinion are doomed by a lack of unified thinking and a real leader to take the country in the right direction. Not to mention the world powers are destined to screw Haiti over because of its past. ONE more thing BAHAMAS is a black country, way better than DR in terms of economy. I think its not genetics, its more an aspect of mentality and way of thinking. Dont piss off europeans if you want to make it in the future

Seriously man I think you got some issues, I don't know what gives you the idea that we dominicans think we're white. We are not white, and very proud of it, but we are not black either and very proud of that. We are Dominican!

and just incase you want to get technicle,
Yes trust me, there are whites and blacks which make up about 35% of the population. But if there is a black or a white Dominican you can be sure he is also mixed. There ae also some columbians, Americans, Mexican, etc. Those who do consider themselves pure white and black are Haitian or Spanish and mostly racist or have some other weird issue like you do, but most of us dominicans prefer to be mulatos mixed, somewhere in the middle.

Want proof, go to the Dominican parades around the world, like Puerto Rico, Florida, Spain, New York. Here in New York you will easily see everyone is mixed. Any African American here in New York can easily tell a Dominican from the heights from an African American in Har

I would caution all of you to refrain from an association with each other since you all seem to not differentiate between BIGOTRY and RACIAL VANITY.
You will notice that I use the term VANITY instead of PRIDE. Too many people don't know the difference, or, are too self centered to admit to it.
I spent the first 17 years of my life in an extremely BIGOTED society, then transitioned to one where a person's performance, dediction to duty and his common sense were the most important aspects of his contributions.
It took me awhile to make the transition, but I eventually "saw the light" andhad amuch better life as a result. maybe you all should try for that goal instead of mouthing off as you have been.

The Fuerza Aeria doesn't have the aircraft to do that YET. Delivery of the Tuscano's isn't for a couple of months yet, then the aircrews must be trained, the radar backup and intercept controllers trained in the procedures acceptable to do the job.
That must be done first, else we will have another Russian Shootdown of an innocent tourist aircraft.
This isn't the1st world country(Air Defense-wise) you would like it to be yet.

To my understsnding DR had good military pilots and San Isidro military air-base is as good as any, equiped with radar interceptors as well as P-51D Mustang and Vampire jets from Trujillo's time. It was the first country in LA to obtain jet fighters to get Castro out of Sierra Maestra but US
did not let him along with the Venezuelan President at that time.
So TB, am not full of it when I said the US is involved in Haiti and controls the western hemisphere
Who got Aristide out? Not the Chilean or Brazileans or Argentineans (all 3 of the forementioned countries) are pro left. They are under the OAS and the policies are dictated by W.DC unilateraly.
Not that i like Aristides, no more than you, but the fact remains we remove and replace leaders in LA to our liking. A good example was Panama resently .I said resently because we made the split between Panama and Colombia to built the canal.Since Mexican take over, every LA country one way or another had to go thru"Monrroe Doctrine"

rom1804 The latin world? First of rom you haitians suffer from a syndrome called self hate, and i notice that you envy anything that is white or close to it, if you check in the internet and you post on the search box anti-haitianismo and you read that article it is basically written from a haiticentric point of view. No facts just pure hatred towards dominicans that are of spanish descent, yeah that's right dominicans of spanish descent. If you study the history of the island without biasness you will come out with another conclusion, the fact is everyone in our history is a heroe and a villain. It all depends wether you are dominican or haitian. So pick youre side, i pick the dominican's. As far as Latin America and perception that's what it is perception? if i tell you that Brazil has the highest percentage of afro-latinos and second to Brazil is the U.S. and third Colombia will you believe that? the estimate has been done it is a fact! but if you ask a Colombian he will tell.

If you read my poster no where do you see me blaming the US for DR misfortune. What you see is DR high ranking military personnel not doing their job by stopping these air-drops in DR.So don't twist my words.
I know you agreed with TB so do I, in many things but not in this . He is also a LT Col. ret. and
will give us advise from his own prespective like the other 2 Lt. Col mentioned before, above Love,.
Patterson.
Juango i agree with you 100%on May 2 poster.
Santanar, let us stick to the facts, as we all know what the Haitians can do as long as they do it in
their own country, not in ours. The subject is air drops 18 compared to 107 "smugglers fly with impunity" in Dominican air space and we lost our air space. If that is the case which i doubt very
much then why have an air force ?or a navy with admiral? 6 useless infantry brigades full of generals? All these cost money plus the equipment. Why not be like Costa Rica?. No military,No
pension or payroll.

I took several classes in Latin america, and learned a thing or two about hispaniola. Self hate is on both sides of the island. Dominicans prefer to be considered white, spaniard, and catholic only to counter the way haitians are seen which is african and voodoo people. Dominicans have their own flavor, but to the general US white population, Dominicans are just black people who speak spanish. It is sad but the one drop rule prevails. Especially, if you don't look "puerto rican." It is sad but arcatype you are correct this is found in all parts of the world. . If people know anything about haiti and DR you can say that not all haitians are black and not all dominicans are mixed. Yet, history proved that the side you choose, determines what you affiliate yourself with. I looked for an article and study that wasn't haitian centric, that explains the self hate that goes in DR.

to the great Social Darwinist Carbelk: would you mind explaining the relative success of Barbados, using your racial coefficient theories? white supremacist thinking is ok, but it has to be defensible. do you also believe that the mountain dwelling white people from a state such as West Virginia are smarter and more successful than the black people from Atlanta, for example? where on God´s green earth do you people get these neanderthal ideas from, i might ask? this is the kind of stuff i expect from somebody who just crawled out of a cave, not someone who can actually maniulate the keyboard of a computer! the ranks of the white supremacists on this forum appears to be swelling....the usual suspect must be feeling really comforted!
