Santo Domingo.- The head of the bus owners grouped in Fenatrano, Juan Hubieres, was arrested near noon Thursday by Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) agents, accused of blocking a section of the busy avenue V Centenario, and for heading a picket in front of that agency.
Newspaper El Nacional reports that during a confrontation with drivers, several people were wound by bullets and clubs, some passengers among them.
AMET Public Relations chief Jose Jáquez said during the protest Hubieres blocked traffic with more than 40 buses, to demand that his group be given the passenger route leased to the unionist Felix Guzmán.
The AMET spokesman said Guzmán has a contract with the traffic control agency, though Hubieres wants to take over that route.

The brutal and bestial reaction of the police affirms once again that the state in the DR is nothing but a bourgeois democracy ... if even that, chiefly concerned with enforcing the will and defending the interests of the rich against the workers.
The governing principle that rotten bourgeois power applies to workers and their legitimate struggles is "Be poor and quiet."
To beat the bourgeoisie in the economic form of the class struggle, the workers often need state power on their side, like in Venezuela. This rarely happens with a bourgeois state, whether the bourgeois state is democratic or autocratic or oligarchic or monarchical or in some other form.
The working class is not an independent political force in the DR politics. Rather the class is broken up into various sectors or tails attached to the stinking rear of various bourgeois leaders, including LF, who are palmed-off not as bourgeois, but as "Dominican."
