SANTO DOMINGO.- Customs director Miguel Cocco yesterday said he would prefer to resign before concealing a case of contraband or another illicit action, and affirmed that the US$569,412 seized last week from the pilot of a small plane which brought it from Puerto Rico have characteristics of money from drug trafficking.
He said Customs maintains the investigation open and other law enforcement agencies should establish if the money is linked to drug-trafficking.
Cocco said it was verified that another trip had been made, and only one person was charged in the case because they assumed the responsibility.
The pilot Manuel Tejeda Ovalles is being held on money-smuggling charges, whereas Jose Martín Gomez and Rafael Luciano Corominas were released. Luciano is the son of Supreme Court justice Rafael Luciano Pichardo.

SUPREME COURT JUSTICE RAFAEL LUCIANO PICHARDO: Son, where's my money?
RAFAEL LUCIANO COROMINAS: Dad, Customs took your money.
JUSTICE LUCIANO: Go get it and don't tell me about your fall guy. I want my money.
