Santo Domingo.- The journalist Marino Zapete filed a complaint in the Justice Ministry to annul the rental contract of the Hotel Montaña, on grounds it violates the State Company Reform Law (141-97).

Zapete, who filed the legal action with the power-of-attorney from the Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (Adocco), seeks to annul the contract signed between the Hotel and Tourism Industry Promotion and Development  Corporation (CORPOHOTELS) and the company Pareatis S. A.

Although it was signed September 7, 2007, the 35-years contract stipulates that the lessee agrees to pay the Dominican State US$2,000 monthly, beginning in 2018.

According to Zapete the contract’s “paltry” sum affects the interests of the State and the Dominican people.

Adocco alleges the contract provides unlawful benefits for Pareatis, since it was awarded without conducting a open bidding.

The 2-story, 23- room concrete structure Hotel Montaña, located in Jarabacoa, La Vega province (central) sits on 176 million square meters of land, overlooking extensive mountains and pine forests.

Our accessible mountain areas will be tourist gold mines of the future......this contract should be revoked.... these areas have a very appealing year round climate and are naturally suited to retirement communities among other things ....as more Dominicans enter middle class these areas also have summer residence potential.....what a climate ...who needs a beach

My guess would be that while the state gets only $2000 per month someone is getting a lot more off the books.
