SANTO DOMINGO. - The National Drugs Control Agemcy (DNCD) seized 96 kilos of cocaine in three bundles Wednesday dawn, airdropped from an unidentified plane at Batey Montecarlo, La Romana (east), but there were no arrests.
The airdrop of drugs from planes has become commonplace in the country, with at least 10 reported so far this year.
The DNCD reported the operation noon today, and said members of the Dominican Air Force (FAD) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also took part.
The confiscation took place near 4 a.m. when DNCD agents in the zone for “tracking the place where the drug was dropped, “and left to possibly gather more bundles,” of 30 bags each.
After the drug was taken for analysis, it was determined it was pure cocaine.
The DNCD said the suspects were being “pursued electronically,” and the airplane’s radar trace was detected, which forced them to abort the drug trafficking operation.

A good job by the FAD the DNCD and the DEA, an perfect example of what can happen when organizations cooperate instead of compete. It's too bad the actual traffickers/pilots always get away. While I am against "suspected" drug aircarft being shot down, those aircraft proven to have been involved in illegal activity should be "encouraged" to land at San Isidro or another airport under military / DNCD control.

Just legalize it, and Tax it like alcohol and cigarettes. That should stop most of the Violence.
We all know dam well that , the DNCD is not going to burn all that, thats like burning Money.

Legalize......Tax it?
Are you going to pay the medical bill or is the Goverment, when the insurance companies say know to an ADDICT?
Figure that one out.........How do you legalize something that is addictive, and has no kind benefits to that person.

The conundrum of drugs....Parts of legalization and control argument has its merits for certain types of drugs..the downside is bankruptcy of the soul and spirit if you legalize it all

I can understand decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana, I would draw the line at addictive drugs like cocaine, heroine and meth. These drugs destroy the individual and thereby destroy the family. The destruction of families lead to the deterioration of societies (neighboorhoods, cities and eventually nations). Some nations in South East Asia have come to the same conclusion and give drug smugglers the ultimate penalty.

Narcotrafficking, unfortunately is ravaging the D.R and Haiti and something drastic needs to be done to prevent the cities and towns of both countries from turning into Medellin a la the Pablo Escobar & Medellin Cartel era.

It is a good thing the DR is not connected to Mexico or we would really be in the brown stuff..... and I dont mean drugs
From: Dominican Republic, Miami
As long as the majority of these seized drugs keeping turning a profit in the favor of the goverment or law / narco inforcements of different nations, it's not gonna stop...these characters arent gonna cut their own vienes. Why stop such a profitible buisness - involving millions if not billions in seized durgs and drug money every year.......
Figure that one out......

"....Parts of legalization and control argument has its merits for certain types of drugs..." GC observes.
0000
GC is an absolutist and unconditional opponent of proletarian struggles, but when it comes to the patent evil of dope dealing ... mostly to kids ... he shows himself to be incurably wishy-washy.
"Oh dear, both sides have 'merit,' including the dope dealers. For god's sake, don't abuse our dope dealers who by turning a disproportionate number of proletarian youth into junkies or dope fiends have postponed the world proletarian revolution for at least 100 years, if not longer. Ain't that 'merit,' folks, huh? "
If dope dealers pushed dope only on bourgeois and middle class youth, then GC's "legalization" argument may have merit.
But GC wants to legalize the opposite type of pushing, that is, addicting mostly proletarian youth.

oooo
Now this sounds both genuinely plausible and misleading.
Of course, radar can pick up almost everything that not stealth-protected if the radar is working right. So, almost everything flying toward or in the DR's airspace is picked up separately by the radars of DR authorities and the imperial US masters in the DR.
But there's a lot of air traffic in the DR.
So: How to distinguish dope planes from legit aircaraft?
Probably, the radar sensitively picks up the radio signals from dope parcels that are dropped out of or descending from high altitudes. that is, from drug flights, the signals automatically notifying the nearest police choppers to close in on the parcel's signals.
If this is the case, then this system can be beat in many ways and no doubt the sneaky dope dealers are doing it.

Yes, the slimy US imperialists and the dirty regime in Wasnington use their 4-decades "war on drugs' to unjustly imprison and disfranchise millions of low-income, liberal, or anti-GOP voters.
Imprisonement ... whether just or unjust ... terminates the immate's right to vote AFTER he gets out of the Joint ... it terminates the right to vote either permanenty or temporarily ... in most states in the USA.
So, the true motive of the GOPs for the high drug-alleged incarceration rates of certain socio-economic groups in the USA is not the so-called "war on drugs." Rather, the TRUE motive is to manipulate the balance of power within the US electorate in favor of the filthy US reactionaries or, if you prefer, the GOP conservatives..
Thus, modifications of drug laws won't change much because drugs laws don't produce certain evil effects. The drug laws are only used to legitimize these effects.
But, of course, some modifications in the drug laws are obviously call for.

Like someone else posted you can't legalize hard drugs even Holland/Amsterdam only alows pot/ hash they are very strict on the hard stuff.
What befuddles me is that US with all it's might and the Columbians can't seem to put a dent in the production and distribution..
Well then again maybe i shouldn't be surprised we can't find Bin Laden either.

Now, the DNCD has more drugs to recycle into the system and I will expect to see the micro traffickers (Pichardo drug family) move drugs from my barrio in Santiago (Los Platanitos - Ensanche Caonabo) to all other barrios through western DR. No honor among thieves!
At least Castro has a handle on his country and does not allow this trafficking... And if he can...then the RD Gov could stop it also but there is just too much profit for RD Gov officials. In my barrio the police are more align with drug dealers than the law abiding citizens. A police can easily double or quadruple his pay from a relationship with someone like Jose Annibal Lopez Pichardo (Choppo) who is a convicted and repeat drug dealer and criminal. The tigres brother owns a 3 story apartment building in our barrio financed with drug money.
