Dude, they have conducted lengthy studies of HIV/AIDS patients in Haiti. The study was not conducted in DR for a reason. It was conducted in HAITI for its number of infected patients.

Still, the news shows that Haiti really needs help in building some sort of acceptable medical infrastructure in the country, because, from what I have heard (and seen in the border towns), the few hospitals on the country are only affordable by the better off economically, and there exist very few medical personnel on the field in the country, a lack that, although it has partly been filled by the cuban volunteer corps, it's still not enough to attend to the needs of the country.

DUMAS - was an omnivorous reader. Especially he was interested in plays. His first produced drama was LA CHASSE ET L'AMOUR, written with with Adolphe de Leuven and P.J. Rosseau. It was written in collaboration with Frédéric Gaullardet. The action centeres around the doomed Queen Marguerite de Bourgogne, who has ordered her illegitimate sons to be killed, but who appears into her life twenty years later.

ALEXANDRE DUMA - was born in Villes-Cotterêts, France. His grandfather was a French nobleman, who had settled in Santo Domingo; his paternal grandmother, Marie-Cessette, was an Afro-Caribbean, who had been a black slave in the French colony. Dumas' father was a general in Napoleon's army, who had fallen out of favor. After his death in 1806, the family lived in poverty. Dumas worked as a notary's clerk in Villers-Cotterêtes and went in 1823 to Paris to find work. Due to his elegant handwriting he secured a position with the Duc d'Orléans - later King Louis Philippe. He also found his place in theater and as a publisher of some obscure magazines. An illegitimate son called Alexandre Dumas fils, whose mother, Marie-Catherine Labay, was a dressmaker, was born in 1824.

DUMAS - wrote constantly, producing a steady stream of plays, novels, and short stories. Before 1843 he had already created fifteen plays. Historical novels brought Dumas an enormous fortune, but he could spent money faster than he made it. He produced some 250 books with his 73 assistants, especially with the history teacher Auguste Maquet, whom he wisely allowed to work quite independently. However, his works are not faithful to the historical facts, but blend skillfully history and fiction. From the beginning, Dumas' abilities as a writer were under dispute, but he is fully credited with revitalizing the historical novel in France.

The Count of Monte-Cristo originated from Dumas' acquaintance with Jérôme Bonaparte, Napoléon Bonaparte's brother, whose younger son Dumas took occasionally on short educational journeys. Returning from Elba, Dumas spotted another island, the deserted Monte-Carlo, about which he determined to write a novel in remembrance of the trip. The protagonist of the novel, Edmond Dantès, is about to marry his sweetheart and become a captain of a vessel. He is framed by three enemies as a Napoleonic conspirator, shortly before Napoleon's dramatic return from Elba in 1815.

DUMAS - earned roughly 200,000 francs yearly and received an annual sum of 63,000 francs for 220,000 lines from the newspapers La Presse and the Constitutionel. Maquet often proposed subjects and wrote first drafts for some of Dumas' most famous serial novels, including LES TROIS MOUSQUETAIRES (1844, The Three Musketeers), originally serialized in Le Siècle between March and July of 1844, and LE COMTE DE MONTE-CRISTO (1844-45, The Count of Monte-Cristo). DIX ANS PLUS TARD OU LE VICOMTE DE BRAGELONNE first appeated in Le Siècle from 1847 to 1850, and was then published in three volumes, The Vicomte de Bragelonne, Louise de la Vallière, and The Man in the Iron Mask.

Dantès is imprisoned in the Chateau d'If, by the politician Villefort, who is anxious to conceal his own father's machinations on behalf of Bonaparte. Educated by the Abbé Faria, Dantés remains in the French Alcatraz 14 years, before he manages to escape, in a highly dramatic manner. He flees to the island of Monter Cristo, and locates a fabulous treasure, hidden since the time of Renaissance. As the Count of Monte Cristo and with the wealth of the treasure, Dantès destroys his enemies and shows the wrong side of the bourgeois world. "Let it be as you wish, my sweet angel' said the Count. 'God has sustained me against my enemies and I see now He does not wish me to end my triumph with repentance. I intended punishing myself, but God has pardoned me! Love me, Haydee! Who knows? Perhaps your love will help me to forget all I do not wish to remember! Come, Haydee!" (from The Count of Monte Cristo) .

DUMAS based the story of Edmond Dantès partly on the life of a poor shoemaker named François Picaud. As a master dialogist, Dumas developed character traits, and kept the action moving, and composed the all-important chapter endings - teaser scenes that maintained suspense and readers interest to read more. Dumas himself claimed that he only began writing his books when they were already completed in his head.

The same reasoning that you used against my claimming a victory against Cromwell for dominicans could be made against your claimming Du Sable's foundation of Chicago as a victory for haitians, rom1804, because, from what I last heard, when Du Sable made his foundation, Haiti was still the french colony of Saint Domingue on 1779, when he first arrived to the shores of Lake Michigan, so it's evident that he made his landmark being a french citizen (and he would be almost executed by the british forces stationed over there because of that). And, as Hispanolano has (inadvertently) pointed out, you have made a mistake regarding Dumas, because he was born on the french mainland, not on Saint Domingue. So please, mr. JabaoHaitian, I can make anyone mad Lautaro is no exception. Lately I've been hitting Lautaro with a little of his own medicines. FACTS and they weren't all in his favor. Now Lautaro explain to me this " The Dominicans always claimed that they are direct descendants of the Tainos. But yet they refused to rename the island AYITI in honor of the Tainos. I would think they would be more in favor of AYITI than Hispaniola since AYITI is a Taino word. MOst of them are more lenient to Quiskeya because Quiskeya sounds more Spanish but us Haitians feels that if you want to rename is Quiskeya that is fine but as long that it is spelled Kiskeya with a K again more in favor of the Taino original Language becuase Quiskeya spelled like that sounds too Frenchy to us. Why in the world would dominicans call the whole island Haiti in present day. Although it's one of the original name of the island, it doesn't today because we(haitians) have coined it for are side of the island. I mean I dont see the problem with them recognising the obvious but to call them Haitians doesn't make sense. It's like we are quisqueyanos too but when referring to that name it usually referred to them "dominicans". They have coined it just like we've coined Ayiti. Please get it thru your skull we are two different countries and have alot in common and many differences.

Here here Jabao. I am "Dominican" because my parents were born there even though I was born in the US. I have personally seen the racism and the mistreating of Hatians in the country and can say I am embarrassed by it. I always make it a point to buy at least one Haitan food while I am there. I know it will not make a big difference but hey 1 step at a time right. My uncle gives jobs to hatians to work in the fields because quite frankly there a very few Dominicans that will do the work anymore. They are too busy trying to get money out of US visitors. I can't even ask anyone how are things because I will always get the same story. Hopefully by my example of compassion for 1 I can start a trend of sympathy and respect. Who knows, maybe even of self pride to Dominicans.

Once again I am saddened by the haitians plight in the DR as well as in Haiti. Dominicans are really trying to move ahead and they want to build and profit in stability. Through all of this I am waiting for Leonel to completely close the border and open it for absolutely no one or nothing. Its hard but the DR cannot take on the problems of these people anymore. My people, I am haitiana. And they have to learn on their own. I hope Haiti doesn't pull a Hiroshima or Nagasaki on themselves. They need help and they need it bad. God help them don't forget them, because they have forgotten themselves. No one is victimizing them but themselves and they need prayer.
