SANTO DOMINGO. - Police chief Rafael Guzmán said Monday crime in the Dominican Republic has been considerably lowered, and that the country is one of Latin America’s safest, according to international studies.

He said it’s possible to observe a rise in crime in the media, which he affirms isn’t so, since the Police works to guarantee order, peace and the security.

The official said an increase in preventive patrols aims to avoid stop crimes

Guzmán spoke after receiving from Interior and Police minister Franklin Almeyda 78 motorcycles to be used by the Auxiliary Police nationwide. He said the units will be used by the supervisors of agents on preventive patrols in Santo Domingo and Santiago.

Well if you lie long enough and hard enough people will begin to beleive it.

So lets start a campaign to show the media is lying.

Good move Teflon Fernadez but nobody that has any brains beleives these lies.

Well, it has got to be stupidity since you have been around too long to be that gullible. Why don't you stiff shirts take off the police uniforms and patrols the barrios at night, weekends and just blend in and see drug crimes take place. i welcome you to my barrio of Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) as there is an alley way that used to be the black waters (which has now been covered). The tigres used this area to measure, exchange and micro-traffick drugs and escape in the rare occassion a police or DNCD agent comes by but officials only come to collect payoffs. The alley way is located at

Calle A Traversal (between Casa #9 and #10) in Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo). Most dealers are led by a man name Choppo who is a drug middleman. All the politicians and law enforcement know the deal and sell protection from local, International and US laws for drug and human traffickers.

Maybe one day the US DEA, FBI will find out what is really going on.

I don't understand, How can you have lower crime rates, when the infux of drugs from venezuela remain @ an all time high, considering the fact that Hipolito left the offfice 4 years ago. Perhaps Fernandez has in on this. This add is a public stunt. Lower crime rates? Hmm, I've read on DNCD.org, 15 years old arrested with kilos.

I love this one..... " In dealing with local police, U.S. citizens should be aware that the standard of professionalism might vary. Police attempts to solicit bribes have been reported, as have incidents of police using excessive force." from state dept. memo

well, par for the course at least in th DR you can pay your bribe up front instead of haveing the state beurocracy extort you for all you are worth like in the states. The Police are no more inept than any other sector of govt. or industry on the island, It's a little naive to hold them to any higher a standard than you would another govt. official, Apparently the bar is pretty low.

Idiot!

Would have received a bit more respect if he just admits the truth.

The ineptitude of the police force and the reasons.

And so, my fellow Dominican, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

ha ha..78 motorcycles added to the countries force.....a police precinct in new york alone has more cars then that.Who are they kidding, how about 10 more car units per precinct in each town.Might as well give 'em each a BURRO and that way they can really say "oh crime is down a good margin here in D.R."yea we're really kicking ASS.
