SANTO DOMINGO.- The conflict between Chevron-Caribbean and the union of fuel tanker drivers SACTPA was solved Monday noon, ending the threat of shortages from an extended walkout

Labor minister Ramon Fadul and Police chief Rafael Guzmán mediated in the meeting of almost two hours.

President Leonel Fernandez had designated a commission headed by vice president Rafael Alburquerque and other senior officials, to seek a solution to the impasse.

Guzman said at 11:45 a.m. the union agreed to lift its walkout and Chevron’s executives decided to accept a negotiated solution. He said the parts will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday to resume the dialogue.

this is all so laughable. what the heck is the police chief doing mediating a dispute between two private sector entities? you cannot make this stuff up; it is beyond humorous. what is next? the most ranking admiral of the navy resolving a dispute between jockeys and owners of race horses?
