SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican and Costa Rican governments agreed to strengthen cooperation in migratory issues and to coordinate action to control prostitution and the traffic of people.

A Dominican delegation visited Costa Rica and met with Interior Ministry officials to draft an agreement that guarantees regular immigration between both countries.

Immigration director Carlos Amarante; Foreign Relations vice minister Rosario Graciano de los Santos and ambassador Adonaida Medina discussed with their Costa Rica pars the arrival of Dominicans to Costa Rica, protected in "marriage of rights or convenience," but soon change to prostitution.

Graciano said the Costa Rican authorities were apprised of the Dominican Police’s investigation in the case and into the network suspected of taking Dominicans to that country.

The Dominican and Costa Rican commissions visited the tourism resort zone at Jaco, and the bars where allegedly dozens of Dominican sexual workers operate, though Graciano said they verified the case had been “exaggerated.”

this problem is endemic to the region.....and not just the DR or with women from the DR but this is becoming unfortunate to have this canard repeated over and over ....we are the most populated island with a low standard of living and the ability to Exit when you can buy a ticket ....Also attractive women relative to most of the rest of the Caribbean....If puerto Rico was poor or you could get out of Cuba they would still have this problem as well ...this is a demeaning story about Dominican women ....If any one on this site remembers and will admit to knowing The Black Angus or the Riviera in San juan PR during the 50s 60s and 70s and 80s they can tell you that the international make up of the girls was very diverse and these were very famous Brothels known worldwide

The point is here, no Countries are ever without their own version of stigmas and tarnished reputations. Maybe if we as people in the Latin Americas stop catering to foreigners by offering and allowing them the sexual beauty & Freedom to exploit of our Island Countries when we should rather and instead promoting our cultural beauty and unity that we have as Latin-Americans & Caribbean Islanders.

Good luck with that!
This starts at the cradle and until Latin Americans can control ithe insatiable urge to procreate then you will just have to accept it as part of the culture.

What I have come to realize here is that the male child is treated like a prince and the female is raised to take care of and please men.

Even the young women who try and earn money the traditional way have at lest one child before they are 18. What chance do they or their children have of a better life.
Everyone likes to blame the government and foreigners rather then take responsibilty.

If you are in the capital just drive down the Independencia or the Malecon and you will be hard pressed to find any foreigners solicitating a lady of the evening, it is all locals pulling over in their expensive SUVs.

Of course you have Boca Chica and the northern towns that are full of extranjeros but this is small potatoes compared to the bigger cities that have built miles of Cabana's that are used by locals.

Tony Tursi did not own the Black Angus, only the Riviera. And yes, I still believe I was a majority shareholder of Riviera stock.

Did I go there a lot? Let's just say I was probably the only kid in the history of the place that had credit with the girls..

Dixie I hope that was not during the Gay bar era that Jander spoke of but to each his own ....The Angus lasted a little longer but it to went the way of the dodo bird...During the 70s and 80s I was always under the impression it was a tursi joint as well ...I stand corrected...But then again I only drove past those joints on my way to mass

Goulet, how interesting you mentioned the Black Angus. on my first trip to PR, i asked the cab driver to take me to an inexpensive but decent hotel. so happens that it was within a stone´s throw from the Angus, and some other bar with the name Hawaii, if i remember. there were girls from all over the latin american area. like Goulet, i only saw them in passing, while i was giving out treats for the indigent.

Thank you Dread for confirming the story ....Was the hotel the Borinquen Tower it was practically across the street and the little bar outside and off to the right was the" Hawian Hut " a meeting place for evangelical students if I am not mistaken

actually, Goulet, the hotel was a little family owned inn called Hotel Toro. the owner, curiously enough, was Mr Toro.(or Señor Toro, if you want to be picky). but it was quite fortuitously located for those who wanted to be within easy access of the Angus, and the Hawaiian Hut, another landmark. there were a few others in the area, if my memory serves me right. i would have been in my element had i not been so busy singing loudly in church at nights.

sadly, Consuello, the reality is that if the DR did not have the sex component in its tourism offering, arrivals would probably fall off by more than 50 %. i know; string me up for saying so, but it is true. in all my 25 plus years of interaction with this country , i have yet to meet one male foreigner who was not here for the tang. it is like Bangkok and Manila; guys do not just pick up and go there just to see the place. there are many other places to see. but we have the poon here in abundance, and that is what attracts droves of folks. cut that off and the industry is dead as a dodo bird.

Not quite dread but single traveling males of any age are here for companionship yes companionship would be the more genteel way to describe this phenomenon as opposed to looking for tang...that said I would think most of the tourism is couples then women cruising to take advantage and degrade the first suitable male they can find and some guys as well are here for sex also

When the only sound in the empty street,
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop.
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On the wayward ways of this wayward town.
That her smile becomes a smirk,
I go to work.

Love for sale,
Appetising young love for sale.
Love that's fresh and still unspoiled,
Love that's only slightly soiled,
Love for sale.
Who will buy?
Who would like to sample my supply?
Who's prepared to pay the price,
For a trip to paradise?
Love for sale
Let the poets pipe of love
in their childish way,
I know every type of love
Better far than they.
If you want the thrill of love,
I've been through the mill of love;
Old love, new love
Every love but true love

Here on the dry coast, there is very little in the way of single travelling male species. Sure you see a few...BUT...what I see a whole lot more of is sankies in search...and finding...thier catch of the week...usually an unsuspecting middle aged women who perhaps does not hold the dreamlike body of those sexy magazine ads about travel to far off destinations. Tourism women + sankies + Western Union = new rims for my Civic Coupe....not money to feed my 5 kids from 4 mothers.

On the otherhand...those few women who cruise the area.....it's all for the kids and mom...sitting back at home on Constanza, Bonao and Azua.

Goulet, what is happening? i am beginning to agree with you more and more these days. yes, the predator is the middle aged woman from Moose Antler, Wisconsin, who is 60 pounds overweight and hasn´t seen the bamboo in 15 years, because, in her neck of the woods, not even dogs bark at her. so she comes down with her posse, all equally grotesque from an appearance standpoint, looking to overpopulate the discos in the all inclusives, looking for some pipe. sanky panky loves the odds, and before you can say ¨knife¨, he is on a new passola, and living large. soon, Martha will go back to the cornfields and the cattle, but the Western Union missives will take effect. soon, Ramon will be blinging away, with Nike, Reebok, and all.Martha will spend the next three months packing suitcases with the latest new york ghetto chic, counting the days for her return. when she makes the second trip, she will be looking for a real estate agent, because she wants a home here for her and the novio.

Ramno will assure her that the house has to be bought in his name, since she is a foreigner, and has no rights of property ownership. she will heed his advice, to the denial of all other counsel, and , when the ink is dry on the title, he will move in his woman, her kids , uncle , grandmother , et al. he will be charitable enough to give Martha directions to the nearest cabaña. after all, he would not want her sleeping in the streets, would he?

Cougars they're called.. (older women after young native pipe) and yes, their numbers are catching up to the mongers faster than you can say "slip on that sleeve".

Hey, more power to them.

And if you guys are going to be dropping San Juan names like Hotel Boriquen, Hawaiian Hut and such, then I'm gonna start mentioning places like Litos..

How many of you guys remember THAT place, owned by a ????????????? ( this is where we separate the "Men" from the boys...

Dread, you have an unfair advantage, I mentioned it to you one night in a drunken stupor at the Acuarium....

the brutality of the language of romance is unfamilliar to me "laying pipe" we dont say these things ,do you? Not seen the mahogany in 15 years....we dont say these things ..do you? But seriously this is not only here and not only middle aged ...these ladies are fully aware that while they are on vacation no one will be the wiser ....cest la vie.....on some islands and here as well young men have become very agreesive and take the wrong cues sometime leading to serious problems

very correct, Goulet. you know what? if these people are dumb enough to fall into the traps that sanky sets for them, then more power to sanky. it is no different than the old fools who think that some 19 year old showstopper is head over heels in love with their gout!

I was in seminary school at this time of my life so all these places were just names to me
