Santo Domingo.- Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel) director Jose Rafael Vargas delivered equipment and uniforms to Moca firefighters, for a value of RD$100,000.

The initiative is part of a RD$300,000 donation Indotel is carrying out in order to improve fire departments throughout the country.

I really should not post this and noting taken away from Indotel's gift.

But now with all the high rise apartments etc most without sprinkler systems or even fire alarms , it is going to take a lot more then uniforms to save lives.

It's a good thing that Indotel contributes back into the communities where it makes millions, but as the previous post states, with larger, taller buildings rising every year, there needs to be a national plan to deel with the situation and government funding for equipment.

If is any serious fire in Dominican Republic poor of those lives that are in danger, because believe me. The car get in a heavy traffic nobody help and when they get in the fire probably is not water to put the fire off

The Difference in the ability to save lives with the uniforms is the length of time the fire fighter can with stand the heat. I trained in plane fire retardent clothing in the my early years in the navy and then later used insulated fire fighting uniforms and found the insulated fire fighting uniforms means minutes of exposure rather than seconds.
The water issues and lack of sprinkler can not be addressed by one company but having the ability to allow a fire fighter several minutes of exposure could save lives. Even if it only his own.
