Santo Domingo .- The Customs Agency (DGA) filed charges in La Romana’s Instruction Court on Tuesday, against Dominican Civil Aviation officer Honorio Acevedo Canela and the U.S. pilot Sergio Orioli, of illegally introducnig US$ 969,576 to the country.
The DGA also asked the Armed Forces Ministry to discharge Acevedo.
Acevedo and Orioli were arrested Sunday in La Romana Airport where Customs and Airort Security (ESC) agents uncovered the money in three packages in the suitcases of the Dominicans Cisnero Paredes andAntonio Reyes, who fled the scene.

Unfortunately, the weak judicial system and corrupt law enforcement, DNCD & military will be a road block.
The money should be taken! Interest collected BUT never given back to the criminals who knew the money was earned illegally and smuggling is also illegal thus it is the property of the state to improve the quality of life. Clean up a barrio, provide INFRASTRUCTURE, ,clean drinking water improved education, an internet cafes in ghettos and or a public hospital...
But these funds will likely make some new politicians millionaires as often happens. Because after all, it is the same stuff ...just a different day.
The RD path of corruption leads to global uncompetitiveness (the next new Haiti by 2018)!
