ROME.- President Leonel Fernandez and the first lady Margarita Cedeño participated in a mass to give thanks for his electoral victory, dedicated to the Virgin La Altagracia, protector of the Dominican nation.

Santiago metropolitan archbishop Ramon Benito of Rosa, president of the Dominican Episcopate led service held in the Basilica of San Giovanni Batista, where government officials of the Dominican embassies in Italy and the Vatican also participated.

After the mass, Fernandez, the First Lady and de la Rosa laid a wreath in a chapel located in the Basilica, which houses an image of La Altagracia.

This chapel, built in 2005 houses a painting of the Virgin by the son of the late political leader Juan Bosch, Leon, chief of staff of the Dominican embassy in Italy.

We should go back to name the country Quisqueya.
Although, that is Leonel's personal prefrence.

"Que viva la virgen Maria, intercede por nuestro pais delande de Dios."

renaming the country is not a bad idea Hispaniola is probably unacceptable for obvious reasons Quisqueya may work ....nobody knows where the Dominican Republic is anyway and the it would be good for turning over a new leaf and breaking with the past also great publicity during the transition....Haiti would not be involved of course

Good publicity stunt Fernandez, but you forgot to bring Josefina Cozaiter along, so that she can repent aswell. In Fact, invite Hipolito the next time you go.
