SANTO DOMINGO.- "The people who in the last few days have caused the death of civilians and law-enforcement agents, or those who’ve been involved in criminal actions, such as robbery, assaults or holdups, have inexplicably left prison, for which the Police carefully investigates."

The statement is by Police chief Rafael Guzmán, who said Emil Federico Jiménez and Rommel Antonio Rodriguez, accused of murdering officers Franklin Alcántara and Juan Cuevas, in an attempted holdup in the Serrallés sector, had been released June 25, “in a manner that we’re investigating."

Guzmán said the suspects were jailed after being charged for having committed several holdups in businesses. "The same thing happened to the people who killed sergeants Ramon Lebrón Lara and Marino Moreta, and a citizen of San Pedro de Macorís (east), who had left jail few days after the killing."

Guzman cited several more cases involving murder suspects he said had been released inexplicably, and blamed a judge in San Cristóbal (south) he didn’t mention by name for taking part in that type of “deal.”

Oh please ! This is the Dominican Republic's answer to JUSTICE.......What message are they sending to the Dominican people and the World................................... that CRIME DOES PAY , and FORGET THE RULE OF LAW [ it's called Lawlessness ] IT'S NO WONDER WHY SO MANY DOMINICAN'S TAKE THE LAW INTO THERE OWN HANDS.........Maybe when the tourist $$$$$$ drop the Dominican Gov. and Law enforcement will take notice, after all money got them out.....Money can get locked-up. As for me, when I make my move to the Dom. Rep. I will make sure I'm armed to the teeth and I petty those who would do my Family and me harm for JUSTICE will be at the end of a gun barrel.

This is the Dominican way. We've been around for 400 years and still can't seem to get it right. It's got to be the hot sun numbing the concept of justice. What is missing on our flag is a modified version of Lady Justice. On her scale one side should be tilted and loaded with money preferably 30 pieces of silver depicting the betrayal of the Dominican people. Her blindfold should be removed with her eyes staring at the money. On the hand where she normally carries the sword, there should be no sword, instead it should be reaching out, hand cupped as if begging. I'm just bursting with pride. Can you feel it? The keystone cops must have been modeled after our police.

The judge who released these crimminals should be arrested himself or have some tragic "accident" happen to him while in police or military custody.

Juansantodomingo--

I think that you have it just right. But this type of corruption and so frequently is a little scary for everyone. Someone fairly high up has to be letting this go on and with no dismissals or officials being fired. It's as if the government just doesn't give a damn what the locals do --- "just don't do it on my doorstep". Sad Very sad

I couldn't agree more. Then maybe the fear of God would make them stop and consider.
But these days ---- money and power often mean more than God.

This is not what happens to cop killers in other societies....some of these guys being involved in the killing of police officers and then bribing other officers to let them out is an insult to the other police officers families it verges on unbelievable...total moral bankruptcy ....to serve and protect in this case is ridiculous
