SANTO DOMINGO.- The president of the largest Dominican opposition party (PRD), Ramon Alburquerque, yesterday advised his party companion and former president Hipólito Mejía that any decision on dialogue must be fruit of an inter-party discussion. "For the PRD the organisms speak, not people; we the people are spokesmen of what the PRD organisms decide."
Alburquerque’s statement was in response to those of Mejía, who on the weekend said the PRD cannot shut itself out of the consensus against the current crisis.
He said the PRD leadership already decided it won’t speak with the government of the PLD party and with president Leonel Fernandez. "The PRD has said that it will not have a discussion with the Government and that it will not enter into any agreement, because it’s a Government stained with illegitimacy, even if it has legality; so that this and any other proposal must be taken to the organisms so it acquires the force of proposal of the PRD."
