SANTO DOMINGO. - Luis Alvarez Renta, one of the country’s wealthiest financiers and one of four convicted of fraud in the Baninter bank collapse, was sent to the prison at Najayo, San Cristobal (south) Thursday night, to begin serving a 10-year prison sentence.

Sentencing judge Saulo Ysabel Diaz issued the custody order around 7 p.m. last night, after almost 12 hours of discussion with the condemned and his lawyers, who asked the court to reduce his sentence and that he be allowed to serve his time in prison in the jail at Aras Nacionales, Villa Mella.

Alvarez Renta arrived early Thursday morning at Diaz’s office in the company of his lawyers.

Where is the money? If I was a citizen of Dominican Republic I would be outraged, and insulted at the fact that in 10 years this piece of blobbery scum will still have in his possession the monies he stoled from the nation. Is there any way of getting it back? Is there any way of destituting all of his assets and bringing back into the system and providing the much needed money to the school system (there is another piece of garbage that will be tossed for 25 yrs or more) , law enforcement and hospitals ...

Is this real punishment? stealing from the future of young children, health, quality of life and safety?
Is there any justice or are the dominican population of such narrow mind that they dont foresee the end result that soon will follow from continuing to harbor, condone, consent and support deviant behavior!!!
