SANTO DOMINGO.- The Presidency’s Narcotics Adviser yesterday said the United States embassy disrespects the government when “through a stupid diplomatic note” attributes responsibility for a Supreme Court sentence that declined to extradite a Dominican implicated in a drug-trafficking case in that nation.

Marino Vinicio Castillo complained that the U.S. diplomatic representation didn’t proceed in the same way during ex president Hipólito Mejía’s administration when, according to the official, the extradition treaty “was a dead letter.”

“The United States embassy has made a demand that’s not noble, when it should have respect for the government of Leonel Fernandez,” the Cabinet level minister said, and noted that it has been this administration that has created the bases so that the figure of extradition is respected, especially in the drug-trafficking cases.

He said the Penal Procedural Code in effect stipulates that it’s the Supreme Court which decides on the extradition of a Dominican and not the Executive Branch, to respect the separation of State powers. “How are they going to ask the Executive in a disrespectful manner on an extradition question which another power of the State has decided.”

Castillo said the complaint comes “from the same embassy that didn’t say not even  half a word when Hipólito Mejía issued two decrees motivated to deny the extradition of a citizen from Moca (north) implicated in the Quirino case,” of which he said didn’t have many details.  “To him (Mejia) they never said anything because he was in the coalition of Iraq.”

He added that Fernandez hasn’t refused to comply with a single extradition request.

Is this the same defendant that paid RD supreme court officials US$ 100,000 in order to nullify any US extradition request?

The justices are satisfied with the time being served (used loosely) in the RD penal system. As all of you should know, the RD prison system is a revolving door for those with connections and money. Now, this man wanted by US officials may be sitting next to you at a resort, on the beach or a restaurant (instead of serving time in the RD).

Well, same stuff ....different day! Its the RD justice system what did you expect.

This story is about drugs and how a Dominican in the US killed for drugs .. and also about the growing realization here and elsewhere that the US Government needs to be told that the root cause of all the drug smuggling through the Dominican Republic has to do with the insatiable demand for drugs in the United States .. in this case the heavy use of cocaine in the United States .. arrest and extradite Jersey crack heads and all the others like them .. that will put a damper on the transit of cocaine through Dominican territory .. Mejia cooperated with Bush by sending Dominican troops to Iraq .. as Mario correctly pointed out .. so he got a break with that extradition request .. does that mean we have to send troops to Iraq right away to get a break on this extradition request? I suggest sending that crack head from Jersey .. since he likes Bush-Cheney so much .. ready to take your marching orders crack head?

One of the chumps here even suggested the use of US Marines to extradite drug suspects wanted in the US .. very funny because he might be the first one to be picked up and offered a free ride home on ConAir ..

"Stupid protest on extradition" hits the nail right on the head .. you are dealing with a different breed of Dominicans this time around .. they don't like being pushed around .. this is a bunch of well educated Dominicans that take pride in their country .. have a modicum of dignity .. and refuse to be slapped around like the Three Stooges .. they want to study the request first .. determine that there are sufficient legal grounds for extradition .. and if they exist then to execute the procedures as required by law .. they have had enough of US "gunboat diplomacy" .. you hear that Jersey crack heads? .. your days are numbered here ..

The US Marshall Service operates a convict transportation outfit very similar to the one depicted in the movie "CON AIR" .. mainly for suspects named in Federal indictments and convicts transferring between the various branches of the US Bureau of Prisons .. but I am not sure if there was ever a real CON AIR per se .. there is a Canadian company with the name ConAir .. poor guys ..

No I never said the US is at fault for charging him with homicide .. I said the large demand for drugs in the US is largely responsible for the drug problems here in the Dominican Republic.

This guy WILL BE EXTRADITED .. but the proper procedures need to be followed .. however it appears that the US government wants to ignore Dominican procedural protocols pertaining to this extradition order. They have chosen to ignore Dominican statues by asking the Executive Branch to rule on the extradition request, instead of letting the Judiciary do it's job as required by Dominican law. The US Government is essentially trying to break Dominican laws. If you interfere with the Dominican Judiciary you will be the one protecting the murderer. The more you mess around with them the more likely it is that they may reject this extradition request. So give them time to work on it Joizi man .. they might even put you in the same cell as the guy wanted for this murder. How would you like that huh?

Dominican Judiciary? You got to be kidding me! There isn't a person that has anything to do with the court system here that is NOT for sale to the highest bidder.

In the US the Bario kids dream of getting rich by becoming a professional ball player. HERE they dream of becoming a politician or JUDICIARY and if that fails a POLICE OFFICER.

LF should seek to extradite Miami banks officials who laundered money at every step in the Baninter fraud.

He will find out what the US imperialists think the US-DR extradition treaty is worth.
