SANTO DOMINGO.- The NY State Assembly will have the first Dominican that represents part of the New York City borough, the Bronx, NY1,com reports.
It said Bronx Democrats nominated Nelson Castro on Tuesday, to fill the void left in the 86th Assembly District after Luis Diaz becomes the state's Community Affairs Commissioner.
"Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, it's a great force, we are going to be united,” said Castro quoted by NY1. “Now we are almost invincible because we have the two largest communities in the Bronx together and now I have the honor to represent this unity."
It adds that Castro will take office in September and follows in the footsteps of the Dominicans Adriano Espaillat and Jose Peralta.

This doesn't mean of course "The NY State Assembly will have its first Dominican."
It means the first to represent that district in that part of town, but not the first.
New York State Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat and New York State Assemblyman Jose Peralta.
Running Dominican candidates with solid and mature electoral allies is a good way to lift or motivate the turnout of the DA electorate. Hopefully the elevated turnout will continue when the issue is a broad peace and justice one rather than just DA empowerment.
Why the need for "mature electoral allies?"
When Nelson Castro got picked over other nominees, there were a few hurt feelings.
But everybody should be mature about it if Castro is sound ideologically and politically. And he should be. After all, Espaillat got Castro picked.
Since Espaillat lobbied and pushed the Democratic committee to pick Castro over well-backed rivals, his success may mean that Espaillat is the prime candidate to become The Man in DA politics, certainly in NY, but also in other states.
Rangel's, Serrano's, and Richardson's pull with the AAs, PRs, and MAs respectively is nationwide.
To rise to the status of The Man, Espaillat most likely needs a better and bigger seat, but challenging the AA and PR congressmembers in the City isn't wise.
Espaillat has to somehow pick off a white reactionary congressman.
That will bring him glory.
