SANTO DOMINGO. – Dominican Republic’s equivalent to a drugs czar yesterday slammed Washington for its “persistent obstruction” that limits his country’s initiatives and efforts “to resist and defeat” drug trafficking’s aggression by sea and air.

Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho), Cabinet minister and the Presidency’s narcotics adviser, said the United States authorities know the number of flights with drugs that occur every week in the Dominican Republic.

He said the current problem destroys the collective calm, affecting entire families and noted that since his previous term in office president Leonel Fernandez has fought against drugs with determination.

Castillo spoke in the launching of the National Strategic Drug Plan, where its objectives and measures stressing the damages narcotics cause were detailed, and the integration of Government agencies and private institutions with that purpose.

The official also criticized the alleged permissibility of ex president Hipólito Mejía’s administration (2000-2004) with drug trafficking and Washington’s supposed indifference against that behavior, for the presence of Dominican troops in Iraq. He said that participation “produced more deaths for us from the addiction of our youth than the U.S. casualties in the war."

He warned that the amount of drugs now entering can lead the country to the condition of a Failed State, since it’s not in “mere transit,” as much of it is consumed in this nation.

Folks, we're talking about an underground international business which grosses (estimated) $500 Billion per annum profit; Do you think any one in poli-tricks, or govern-mint will impede this cash cow from running its course? Not in this lifetime. Money talks.....

I wonder why they call the drug chief Czar? The last Czar got whacked, along with his family.
Why not call the head drug enforcement poli-trickcian: The Drug Hoffa?

Mr. Castillo is being his usual self, I had not heard from him for a while but thats a kind of high position Cabinet minister and Presidency's narcotics adviser. Does he really have any real knowledge about drugs and how is affecting the youth of D.R. First of all the used of drugs in any country in the world is a very small minority when this group is divided by the casual user to the extreme user ( addicts ) and then compare to the other ills of society and its leading causes of death. Mr. Castillo has always wanted to portrayed himself as the moral majority and as a men of undisputed integraty and honesty but he wants to make some comments and bring some examples which are not that relevant to the case such as the war in Irak. The dominican authority knows very well where the dealers are and there's no way to hide a plane in D.R. or to fly around and not be decteted or notice at any hours of the day or night. How much money do you want from the U.S. Mr. Castillo -- aids.

Unless the US Military or the DEA is involved it is easy to penetrate Dominican Airspace for a drug drop as long as you don't overfly Santo Domingo.

Just Hit the coast. Drop down to below 1000 feet. Fly between the Mountains and make your drop. Then head west and pop up over Haiti.

Even if they do discover you how are they going to catch you?

I do care about what Vincho Castillo has to say. Well, we're supposed to be a sovereign nation, so just buy the necessary weapons and radars and start shooting them down and make them all go the way of the dinosaurs no matter what Washington, the U.N., or any other wuzz organization says. The security of our nation is more important than those babies.

There is no "solution" to this nightmare until the United States government takes effective measures to curtail drug consumption within it's own borders. But that might never happen because it would entail Draconian measures that violate the rights of American citizens in their own country. So the consumption of illicit drugs will keep increasing .. law enforcement agencies will keep parading their "made for TV" drug busts to keep the US "Drug Czars" happy .. the US Justice Department cuts deals with drug traffickers to make their annual "conviction quota" .. it hardly puts a dent in the total flow of drugs through Dominican territory .. part of the cost of doing business .. nothing changes .. hundreds more will die in the US, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Colombia .. and life will just go on ..

Yes .. there are ways to hide a large plane anywhere in the DR .. if the planes are placed inside your big mouth .. who died and made this guy the village idiot? The US Coastguard and DEA can barely detect small aircraft entering US airspace .. there are thousands of aircraft entering US airspace every day with transponders turned off .. on VFR and with no flight plan .. do you think the US government has the resources for chasing each and every one of those radar blips? do you think drug traffickers mark their planes with large letters that say "DROGAS" on the outside? how naive can you get? where did you get this "watchie" mentality? like one of those private shotgun slinging guards standing outside grocery stores in Santo Domingo .. do you think that is all it takes to stop planes entering US or the Dominican Republic airspace? What a maroon ..
