President Fernandez heads to a 3rd term.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican doctors grouped in the CMD will usher in president Leonel Fernandez’s new term in office with a thrust for a wage increase, said its president Waldo Ariel Suero on Thursday.

He announced a 24-hour walkout in the Public Health and the Dominican of Social Security Institute hospitals and a march to Congress together with several popular organizations for August 16, day of Fernandez’s inaugural.

Although the doctors demand a RD$58,000 per month minimum wage, Fernandez is willing to increase it only 15 percent, the same as for all government workers.

Any Doctor who goes on strike should be stripped of their license to practice.

WALKOUT THREAT !! .....Nothing like holding your Patients as Hostages. When I was a kid, when one said he wanted to be a Doctor it was because he wanted to help and cure the sick........

hello wake up ,how would you like it if you were in their place.these doctors spent alot of time studying day and night 7 days a week and getting paid peanuts. i really don't think you have done the math with what they are making 58000 pesos a month would be less than 2000 dollars us. futher more all of you do not have the education or knowlege that these doctors have.if you would have you would not be posting such stupid comments about these hard working doctors .old proverb says think before you speak.

It is my understanding that these Doctors are from the Public Heath, Social Security Institute Hospitals and Clinics which serve the Poor, and it's the Poor who always suffer anyway, by the way have you even been to one of these Clinics the conditions are shocking and disgusting by our standards, don't get me wrong but how about the Nurses, workers and Medical supply's......Asking is Human, but demanding is evil, you should Thank God you or your family won't ever be affected by this situation. Which reminds me....Thanks, on my next visit to the DR I'll add some copies of Medical Encyclopedias to donate. Do Doctors in the Dom. Rep. take the "DOCTORS OATH" ?

What these doctors are demanding is a fair wage. They do deserved the increases not cause they are doctors but cause they are serving the public inyerests -- their health. The conditions for which some of these doctors are made to worked under is not their faults, they are not the ones who are responsible for the buildings structures and etc. Thats a government responsibilities. Most of these doctors also have private practice and do consultations free of charge for many of the same patients that don't want to go to public hospital. I know this cause my wife was attended by one of these doctors all throughout her pregnancy without being charge a single cent. With free medice and at the time of her delivery she was refer yet to a female doctor for the opration of her delivery. I've seen many patients, mainly females who were treaty the same. These doctors are not cold hearted, they give more of themselve rhan what any politician do, yet politicians get more for producing nothing.

Hectorvargas,
THANK GOD your wife from what you mentioned sounded like a emergency C-Section [ only performed when danger to Mother / child or both ] and from the sound of things everything turned out alright. But ask yourself, what if your Wonderful Loving Wife and your unborn God sent Child was in one of the Hospital's affected by the big "Doctors walk out" set for August 16, 2008 ....How would you look at things....Would it be safe to say, just say a little different ?????? so would it be safe to say PUBLIC SAFETY......OR......PERSONAL SAFETY then be the big issue ? . Yes ! the system needs help big time the real question is from what angle. Thank god for caring DOCTORS. And God bless your Healthy Child.
