SANTO DOMINGO.-Former Dominican Air Force (FAD) Chief of staff Virgilio Sierra Perez complained after learning that a court would order a criminal trial in the next few hours in relation to the disappearance of a fighter jet turbine.

Santo Domingo Province 3rd Instruction Court ruled to open a trial against the former military officier on charges of corruption, in the case of the two A-37 fighter jet engines, property of the Dominican Government, sold to individuals.

Judge Karen Garcia also ordered criminal proceedings against former officers Benito Peralta, Héctor Rafael González and Benito Casanova, to determine the turbines’ whereabouts, after Anti-Corruption Department Assistant prosecutor Otoniell Bonilla read the charges against them.

Those jet engines are in all probability being utilised by aircraft bringing drugs into the country..remember I said it first.

It would seem that some of the"justices" are finally heeding the call for the elimination of corruption, especially for the"higher ups" in government agencies.
Keep up the good work.

It's needed !!

Well, whoever bought them is now probably regretting the purchase. These engines were "gas-gobblers" of a very old design with a very low consumption to thrust ratio.

I use to wonder why the FAD got rid of their A-37s s so quick, a popular plane in Latin America. Even when in service, the FAD's A-37s spent most of the time on the ground, now I know why, the engines were probably sold to some company in Florida for next to nothing, but enough for the General to buy a new 4X4.

The engines used by the A-37 Dragonfly are the non-afterburning version of the General Electric J85.

There are only 5 planes made that can use those engines.
T-38 trainer (Afterburning Version)
F-5 E/F Tiger II (Afterburning Version)
Canadair CT-114 Tutor
T-37 Tweet (trainer)
A-37 Dragonfly (The Attack version of the T-37)

A few J85 have been adapted for use in other aircraft but that takes extensive modifications and tons of research, design and money. Hardly the stuff of drug-runners when there are so many other options that can be acquired off the shelf and for much less money.

now make him talk and say who he sold those engines to , have that gov. people go and take it back - also take the money away from him and lock both of them up , the seller and the buyer for buying illegal shits...10 years each...

Banilejo,

You are assuming that the buyer knew it was an illegal Transaction!

anthonyC, remember, there is a civilian version of this engine, the CJ610. Also, we cannot forget that Iran searches the world for parts to keep it's airforce flying, they still use this engine and would buy them where they can. Lastly, another application for jet engines are as emergency power generators.

AC whoever bought it didn't place the order with General "electric" for importing and i'm sure that that these type of military engines are not just hanging around like a fan belt at a repuesto

TubercleBaccilus is getting his ratios all messed up .. "These engines were "gas-gobblers" of a very old design with a very low consumption to thrust ratio", he writes .. if that is the case then the engines are desirable .. OK .. let's check our dimensions .. fuel consumption is measured in gallons per minute (gpm) .. Thrust is a vectored reaction force described quantitatively by Newton's Second and Third Laws and is measured in lbs .. the consumption to thrust ration would have the dimensions gpm/lb .. the lower the better .. it's primary school physics .. so if they are "gas gobblers", how could they have a low gpm/lb ratio? You got it bassackwards TubercleBaccilus ..

Iran can use the J85 in their F-5 II but these use the afterburning version.

I would guess the engines were bought and then resold on the open market. FAA rules dictate a paper trail so the serial # would show up quickly if they are in an airframe.

I suspect that they are confortably residing in a Generator as you say or a blower or even a Jet Dragster.
