SANTO DOMINGO.- An American Airlines plane with 267 passengers and 9 crew, coming from Miami made an emergencia land in the Las Americas terminal Tuesday night, with problems in its landing gear, newspaper Nacional says.
The aircraft, which covered flight l90l, was towed from the runway after security agencies, notified of the problem at 9:20 p.m., evacuated its passengers after landing.
Airport authorities said the Airbus A-300’s landing gear failed after it leaked all the liquid in its hydraulic system.
The plane landed to l0: l7, without major difficulties, though with frightened passengers, after the crew notified the situation. Aeronautical Security activated the pperation, as fire fighters, doctors, paramedics placed several ambulances in both ends of the runway.
Nacional said Las Americas airport security chief Juan Francisco Tejada said though the jet landed without incident, it couldn’t follow the usual route from the runway to the ramp area, because the landing gear failure.

Those Airbus A300s, even with regular maintenance, have been on the Carribean routes for 19 years!. AA has no plans to replace them anytime soon, they carry a large number of people a relative short distance (1000 miles each trip) economicly (Europe is @ 3000 miles each way). I would take Jet Blue, their planes are less than 8 years old.
