SANTO DOMINGO.- The construcion company Codacsa today said it’s the Dominican Government’s fault, for an unspecified breach of contract, that the San Pedro-La Romana (Eastern Motoway) highway isnt finished, managed under concession.

It also warned that it’s not convenient for the Government to file a lawsuit against them because that could affect its plan of concessions and “the country’s image.”

“As soon as the State abides by its contractual obligation we’re willing to invest more than RD$2.5 billion in that work,” Codacsa said in a brief statement, issued in response to Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa’s threat to cancel the Santo Domingo-La Romana highway-managment contract.

Tuesday, Diaz Rua said the foreign company hasn’t met its construction commitment and instead has been getting funding only with the money from the tolls at Las Americas. The official said it canceled the contract with the company, which he said seeks to sell the concession for US$111 million.

Understand this magnitude of this scam. Codacsa got the contract and spent nothing but income received from tolls to pay for all construction. They are working more than 7 years to complete something that should have taken 2-2 1/2 years maximum, which is still far from completed. Now they want to sell the rights to collect the tolls for $111 million US to someone who will then have the rights to those tolls forever. Pretty good deal, huh?

This is actually not bad by South American standards. In Venezuela a bridge buit over the river Nervri' in Barcelona took 5 years. The bridge is about 300 meters long and was completed 2 years ago. It already needs serious repair and is not as wide as the original plans called for. As most have you have always stated until the pueblo gest off of its butt and gets mad, really mad at the government both locally and federally things will never change. And if the do change the policiticians do get voted out the new group feels it has a right to steal more than the previous group.
Go figure?????

I hate to say it texasshoe, but those proponents of the "North American Union" wanting to build a super-dooper highway in Texas ain't much better.
Get that bunch on the docks with a referendum, write all the State legislators and Senators, tell them to trash that project before there is another ALAMO in Austin.
Plenty of people are fighting mad over that proposal that came out of the blue.
