Santo Domingo.- The vice president of the Dominican state-owned electricity companies (CDEEE) yesterday denied an alleged crisis in the sector and blamed the increase in blackouts on several breakdowns in power plants, as well as Summer’s increase in demand.

Radhames Segura said the generation problems are momentary and that the breakdowns are being corrected to cover the deficit.

As an example, the official mentioned the reduced capacity of the plants Sultana del Este, Itabo II and San Felipe, but affirmed they’ll be fully operational this week.

Segura said the total demand in peak hours has exceeded 2,000 megawatts in recent days.

What if the RD imported technology of Nuclear Engineers for 4 state-of-art power plants @ remote locales or an isolated offshore island?

What if the RD Gov like Brazil created a diverse energy policy producing its own energy cheaper to be more globally COMPETITIVE?

This new energy creates installation JOBS for a UNDERGROUND transmission & distributions lines w/high security voltage substations providing power & fiber optic communications in ALL RD AREAS (no copper wire thefts).

This would power a NATIONAL RAIL SYSTEM connecting major ports from POP to STI, LaVega, Bonao to SDQ, LRM and PUJ to move both people & EXPORT/IMPORT goods FASTER!

Secondarily, an inner city cable cars like San Fran, CA eliminating OLD HIGH COSTS gas guzzling bus monopolies polluting the air more. The RD Gov would become OWNERS of the country again with a SHORT PAYBACK to invest SURPLUSES in education, ESL/Call Centers, Hospitals, FTZ, police, clean water & attract investments (Tata Motors-India)

I don't know why they have been incapable of solving the energy supply problem to citizens that pay for the service for generations. If you pay, they should deliver. No excuses. Energy companies should have better purchase-, production-, planning- and maintenance managers, if the problem is administrative. If Dominicans don't do the job, hire foreigners.

If the problem is one of energy generation, perhaps the DR needs to increase its power generating capacity based on other carburants than the expensive oil. A generating river Dam in Paraguay provides 75% of the country´s energy consumption. We are not a bigh country, this should not be too difficult. Otherwise a nuclear energy plant could also resolve the issue. Or other alternative energy sources like wind and solar energy. The fact of the matter is, that there are many alternatives for power generation other than oil.

If the problem is that the energy infrastructure is too old, they should invest in that to improve it.

This bum should be indicted and sent off to jail for malfeasance, along everybody or anybody assiciated with him, These type of crappy lies has been going on for just about forever, Perhaps it is high time that dominican people take FIRM collective action against a government that fails to deliver essential services. PUT ALL THE BUMS IN JAIL.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Dominican population were to gather in Santo Domingo for an entire month to protest the Government's lack of properly addressing their grievances?
Now, that would really be something to write home about.
