Santo Domingo.- A shark of approximately 900 pounds and measuring more than 10-and-a-half feet was caught some 12 kilometers east of the by six fishermen who fought it for more than six hours.

The group captured the shark at around l0 a.m. Monday, a feat which attracted hundreds of people along the Las Americas highway, near the international airport.

The throng caused a jam which forced Metropolitan Transit Authority agents to direct traffic on that busy thoroughfare along the Caribbean Sea.

I do pretty well with most spelling and grammer on the posts, but these guys are publishing an e-newspaper, you would think they could do better than that. But I will say that it is a hell of a shark!

Or maybe just maybe Ghoul was there helping the reporter slam back a few Jumbos before filing the story and driving back at 140kph to make the deadline.

That sucker in the pic looks like a BULL SHARK .. those roaming about the GULF and common in FLORIDA. Story probably written by one of the local English graduates from the Autonomous University. I have yet to meet ONE student there who understands English. Let alone speaks or writes in the language. Maybe the shark wrote the entire story all by itself before it thrashed around and CROAKED. Where's the picture of the 900-pounder caught off Las Americas? Did they add a ZERO or two? Sure it was not a 90-pounder? or a 9-pounder baby shark? It's probably on Diario Libre or Listin Diario. The only things they like to show here are pictures of DRUG TRAFFICKERS and WWI propeller planes.

Maybe they should leave that poor shark alone. We see shark, people kill it, we see a crocodile, please kill it. We must educate our population to protect our natural resources. Now it is even hard to see doves flying around because people eat them or treat them badly.

The Photo looks more like an Oceanic Whitetip. Foul tempered beast but rarely reaches 300. If the shark did weigh 900 it was most probably a Tiger Shark or a very large Mako. If it was a Mako I really doubt they would have been able to land it.

I am an avid fisherman. Inshore Flyfishing mainly. Bonefish, Tarpon, permit, Snook,,,,ect. I also enjoy landing Blacktips and spinner shark on fly or light tackle.

I am strictly Catch and release and encourage other to do so also....But If I landed a 900 shark that sucker is comming to the dock with me.

Scary, yet I don't ever recall any shark attacks happening in Dominican waters. Don't let the tourist hear about this.

F.Y.I after they caught that 900 lbs shark the price of grouper fell to an all time low around boca chica and andres. suddenly an abundant supply of mero , chillo, cherna, cojinua etc.
