Santo Domingo. - The Drugs Control Agency’s (DNCD) new president warned drug traffickers and their associates that he’ll proceed against them with the energy necessary so they don’t threaten the country.

Delgado Gilberto, speaking Tuesday upon arriving the entity’s headquarters, said he’ll have the support of the Armed Forces and the Police in “the tenacious war and without rest” the DNCD will wage against drug trafficking."

After thanking president Leonel Fernandez for the designation, Delgado affirmed that the DNCD’s “fight against drug trafficking will be tenacious and with firmness."

Fernandez designated the new DNCD to replace Rafael Ramirez, who is now the Chief inspector of the Armed Forces.

Delgado, a veteran of military intelligence, headed the DNCD’s Joint Information and Coordination Center (CICC) since last year, and the Institute of Studies for National Security and Defense before that.

We must be very careful how we read. English is a ambiguous language.
Case in point, when I first read this headline:
---------------New Dominican drug czar wars traffickers, associates
I understood that the new czar "was" the traffickers associate.
Well, it's not the case!

But, why use the Americans' moniker for DR's Head of the Drug Enforcement Agency?
Drug Czar? in DR? How about Drug Dictator? or Drug Benefactor? but, not drug czar.
Anyway the last Czar, Nicholas was executed along wth his wife and children. So, is that the name you want to use for a chief of police fighting drug traffic?

Arsenio,
Good point and another good caption;

"Dont call me Czar, soon I will be richer than any Czar and live on my own private beach."

is it just me, or do other posters find this whole issue to be quite comical? why was the former czar transferred? was he not doing a good job? if so, why give him another portfolio to screw up?and what is this talk of transferring and suspending other guys who have been suspected of complicity with traffickers? why are they not being indicted? does anybody in his right mind see this as being anything more than a shell game, a dog and pony show to mesmerise the public?

Delgado, a veteran of military intelligence........

"Military Intelligence":
That's a concept that the late George Carlin brought to the comedy stage, and made it a household word.

Dread,

Exactly my comment of yesterday. My comment on pushing out the Drug Czar;

"Seems to me he did not push anyone out of anywhere all he did was to re-assign them to different posts. I hope that replacing the education minister is a positive step. Someone should look into what the Drug Czar makes and what the inspector of the armed forces makes. If the latter is more I wish I could get "pushed out" at my place of work.!!!

Dread:

You hit the nail right on the head. Is it possible that these "repositioned" officials know where the bodies are buried?

jaunb, everybody knows where the bodies are buried. there are more than enough shovels to go around! it is all a colossal racket, which is probably going to get tamed with the passage of time. but for now, guys are going to grab all they can, while they can, and government spin doctors will try to sugar coat the issue and trot out laughable denials and excuses. for their sake, i hope they understand that they are playing with dynamite, because things could become real unmanageable in a frightening hurry!

Looking at all comments it's clear you guys know what's going on with the RD Gov being hypocrites!

But my question is: Why hasn't the US Embassy, DEA, Canada & the EU figured this out? Especially since most drugs end up in these places.

I am NOT impressed by the Prez LF shell game! Nor the new US ambassador = same results!

Bottom line, Tigres still micro-traffic drugs en route to US et al. Tigres have a get out of jail free card via corrupt police & DNCD Notre. The US Embassy & RD Gov know ALL because community leaders have told them. Consequently, the REALITY is that no one cares about poor youth in poverty stricken barrios who already have enough obstacles in life BUT do not need another 1 such as Tigres offering FREE DRUGS to start an addiction.

BUT, it's financially benefical for ALL officials in the shell game to remain ineffective and continue "BACK SCRATCHING" for personal gain at DOMINICAN SOCIETY'S EXPENSE.

Not impressed! Que Vida!

Guys the Inspector General of the Armed Forces in DR. Is like a civilian position, called Director for Matters of No Importance. Goes to the military bases and makes sure the have running water and toilet paper.
It,s like that first police chief that got canned he kept his car and driver. IS THE SPECIAL ADVISOR to LF on nothing.
No budget authority, no place to steal.

Any one who the US Embassy/DEA may pick to run anything will come from the same barrel of rotten mango´s.

BACK IN THE 90´S they helped creat the CICC which later became the DNCD, and is still a branch of DNCD (THIS GUY CAME FROM THERE). Thing was the DEA gave a salary stipend to all those in CICC of about $100 a month. Long story short, they padded the payroll with names of military guys not there to keep the $100. Who was that man
Gen GUERRERO PERALTA who later became chief of police and sold the Bani house to the Colombians who got massacred.
