Santo Domingo.- The Police has made several raids in zones of the capital, Santo Domingo province, Baní (south), among others localities, searching for new evidence in the case that’s been called the Bani bloodbath, where seven suspected narcotics traffickers were killed gangland style in Paya township.

Although the Police refuses to provide details, one of the investigators who asked not to reveal his name said at least 10 raids were made in La Cuaba, Baní, Pedro Brand and other places since Wednesday, in search of new evidence in the case.

Yesterday a group of officials went to San Cristóbal province to head raids in several residences, in search of people who could be linked to the case. One person was detained for questioning in La Cuaba, whose name was not revealed as the Police has clamped down on releasing information in the case.

Meanwhile the Commission that investigates the case now has not director, after Rafael Bencosme Candelier was designating chief pf the Metrpolitan Transit Authority  (Amet).

These types of cases [narcotics] almost always end up behind closed doors. The Dominican narcotics have earned their oh-so-loyal friendship with the prominent narcotic countries such as: Colombia, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Peru, etc. The Dominican Republic in particular has had a history of dealing with these countries and running their own with 'drug' money, corruption, and exploitation of its Haitian construction workers (who have been key in, literally, lifting the city of of Santo Dominigo). Often times when the D.R. officials reports that they have capture the drug lord they were searching for, they are paid to keep these drug lords imprisioned in luxury. People should not place too much faith in the credibility of what the newspapers say about their triumphant drug lord captures and 'arrests'.
