SANTO DOMINGO. - The Emergency Operations Center (COE) in its last bulletin said Hurricane Gustav so far hasn’t caused fatalities in the country, whereas 871 homes have been flooded, and 4,360 people have been displaced, 1,888 of which are in 15 shelters.

COE director Juan Manuel Méndez said 19 provinces remain under a red alert, 9 in yellow and 4 in green, and reports of damages have been received from the southern provinces Azua, Peravia, Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal, where swelled rivers and flooding forced the evacuation of 872 families.

Dams committee director Octavio Rodriguez said the water level at Sabana Yegua dam (south) is under control, as it was drained after Tropical Storm Fay.

Just give it time, next we'll hear of some jerk who tried to cross some swelled river and got swept away or some "surfer" who drowned while looking for the "big wave"... I do hope I'm wrong though
