SANTO DOMINGO.- The Emergency Operations Center (Coe) placed several northwest  communities under a green alert. as Tropical Storm Hanna scrapes the country's Atlantic coast.

Duarte (Bajo Yuna river), Samaná, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Sanchez Ramirez, Mirabal, La Vega and Monseñor Nouel have been placed on the alert in the latest bulletin of the National Meteorology Office. It  said Hanna, located about 225 kilometers north of the Turk & Caicos Islands, caused thunderstorms and wind gusts along the Northwest and the Northern mountain range

Coe director Juan Manuel Méndez said the people who were in shelters during Hurricane Gustav were already sent home.
