SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez last night fired by decree the Executive Branch’s representative in the Monsñor Noel province, a measure which takes place after a scandal by the irregular handout of houses donated by Venezuela to the victims of last year’s storms and which weren’t all given to those truely affected.

Néstor Francisco Melenciano was replaced by Ignacio Garcia.

The row prompted Caracas to recall its ambassador Francisco Belisario Landis for a reported “scolding” for his role in the affair in Bonao (central), and two phone conversations between presidents Fernandez and Hugo Chavez.

Among other decrees, the Executive also designated the journalist Geraldino González Adviser on Forestry Policies, replacing Bernabé Mañón Rossi.

You never will hear the real story, unfortunately.

I want to know why Sr. Melenciano was seen struggling while trying to carry 4 very large suitcases from his office at the same time that Sr. Garcia was seen carrying 4 large empty suitcases to his office.

President Leonel Fernandez actually took too long to fire the governor, considering that Mr Melenciano boasted that he had the right to assign the houses to his cronies, including his personal chauffeur, who happens to be in the payroll of two other government institutions.

he only fired the guy because the situation became an international incident. surely you do not believe he did it because he is so principled, do you?

If the story was about a right wing government this would be the quote from "Chauncey Gardnier,"

"The New York "slime" (as his hero Mark Levin likes to call it) is using a "Lunatic Fringe Group" to attack a friend of the UNited States!"

But since the story is about a government he dosen't like both the New York Times and Human Rights watch are to his liking, for the this moment of convenience!

Now you are in love with the NYT and Human Rights Watch; those "commie pinko lunatic fringe" organizations you normally foam at the mouth about!

I don't know if Mr. Viivanco is refering to you or Mr. Chavez here:

“Accusing us of being part of a conspiracy is a distraction tactic used to attack the messenger,” Mr. Vivanco said.

I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.
