SANTO DOMINGO. - National Police chief Rafael Guzmán said his tenure centers on the elimination of the criminal groups’ links within the Police, which he calls successful, and which will now have to be done in the Armed Forces.
Guzmán said the increase in crime stems from drug trafficking and the the judicial system’s weakness, and cited a rise in auto thefts, since in many cases they’re only used to realise transactions and are later abandoned.
During a visit yesterday with newspaper Listin Diario director Antonio Gil, he said the Police has managed to eliminate many criminal activities, such as assaults in Las Americas highway against people who just arrived in the country; the assault on trucks with merchandise and street holdups.
He complained that there’s still too much crime in the streets because the courts release criminals with minimum penalties.

Why did police let the crime element get so very much out of control? Now, it is an detriment to RD society. Where is all of the state-of-the-nation tough talk & plans from Prez LF? It is like many RD officials are keeping their heads low because they fear they may be named in one of the cases (i.e. Bani or Paulino). There is no strategic preventive law enforcement to act as a greater deterrent to crime such as when ex-cons are deported back to the DR from the US.
Tigres still have a big supply of drugs to sell in my barrio Ensanche Caonabo (Los Platanitos) and are distibuting drugs on cosignment to other barrios. The Jefe knows because I emailed him 3 weeks ago!
I hope this new Jefe is more than talk & press releases but do some real work.
Becareful, you be will be accused of being on the PRD payroll by the resident Lie-onel lackeys!
You should invite him over or are you avoiding being seen with him also?

A month ago I visited, I wanted to get away from everything. If you have ever visited you know how civilians drive in the country. So, I was was driving to Puerto Plata and i'm stopped for speeding.
The AMED (traffic police) stopped me, they saw that I was not the average civilian and the guy basically said "if you pay me I can let you go."
I was not shocked, and continued to Playa Dorada.
I must say, it's the best place on earth!
JSS
everyone knows here that you pay as you go! " in one way or the other"
