SANTO DOMINGO.- A National District judge issued a warrant to search the office of the journalist Nuria Piera, so the Dominican dairy company Ladom can obtain unedited videos or CDs of her team’ visit to film the company’s facilities for her television program.

First Penal Chamber Court judge Felipe Molina Abréu also authorized the Justice Ministry to assist to obtain the lab analyses and tests mentioned in Nuria Piera’s and Huchi Lora’s June 7 television program.

Immediately, the lawyers for both journalists filed a challenge against the judicial measure, which began when the journalists alleged deficiency in Ladom's milk used in the public schools' breakfast..

Lora, describing the warrant as "unusual and irregular," said the ruling, if applied, is in a threat for the media as a way to investigate and denounce. He said the decision seems to be an attempt to intimidate which he said won’t effect or stop his or Piera’s work.

This action by the Dominican Judiciary is an outrage, and is Unconstitutional, in that it violates the "Freedom of the Press" articles in the Constitution.
If carried out, this move could result in the destruction of the evidence gathered by the journalists, thereby rendering the litigation moot by virtue of the evidence being compromised.

Just another example of the insidious corruption which is rampant in the Dominican Republic Government Systems and Institutions.

Were I an Investor, I would remove every single peso, convert it to another currency and "get the flock out of Dodge" as quickly as possible.

Evidently neither the Judges nor the Attorneys are as conversant with the law as they pretend.

Calling these courageous, responsible journalist feisty, is quite chintzy, but then again, English is not my native language.

Nuria Piera is corrupt and does not earn to be called a Journalist.
She probably got paid by the competition of Ladom.
Not the first time she makes a program against a certain company and gets paid for.

this country must have the most bizarre set of laws on the face of the earth. this is a civil lawsuit, for defamation and slander. i can understand the plaintiff petitioning the courts for a subpoena of files and records. but for the judiciary to issue a search warrant is almost comedic. can you imagine the perplexity on the faces of legal minds in other countries? this is beyond third world. how can justice be practised in such a hap-hazard, insane manner?this is not a criminal matter, so how can the courts effect such a decision?

Nuria is a fraud and a racist. She is anti American and rarely reports on the cases of GRINGOS who have been crime victims in the DR. I have been trying to get her to investigate my case for 5 years. After sending numerous e-mails and faxes Nuria has never contacted me.

My ($100,000 USD) house in Santo Domingo was swindled from me in 2004. Fraudulent loans and forged sales contracts were used by Faustino Palmas Garcia to steal the house. After 2 trials and thousands of dollars in legal fees the corrupt (bribe taking) Santo Domingo courts acquitted Mr. Palmas.

Nuria is nothing more than a cheap publicity seeking Diva. She travels to New York often and enjoys our freedoms but when an American needs her help, she shows her true colors

Caprice: sounds like you did nt do your due dillegence in your title search....i as an citizen of the United States of America have properties in the DR and have never come across this problem. And let me tell you why should Nuria a dominican investigative reporter investigate an alledged commerical crime against a us citizen? what makes your claim more important in the Dominican territory than say a Dominican claim of equal proportions? one more thing. I urge you to read last weeks New York Daily new reports where land transfers and title theft seem to be as easy if not easier to accomplish than in the Dominican Rep.

The issue was not the title search. I purchased the house in full but 6 months later the former owners and the real estate agent forged my signature on a new sales contract and a loan contract and then secretly foreclosed on the house.
