President Fernandez left for New York 'with the ranch in flames.'
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO. – Justice minister Radhamés Jiménez said senator Wilton Guerrero isn’t qualified to question his morals and challenged him to reveal the origin of his assets he placed in the millions of pesos, accusations that smack of an imminent rift in president and ruling PLD party leader Leonel Fernandez’s recently-inaugurated Administration.

He rejected having performed the way the ruling PLD party senator of Peravia province affirms, in the investigation in the case of Paya, Baní, where seven foreign drug traffickers were assassinated.

Visibly annoyed the official said it’s Guerrero who must explain his “multimillions” in assets to the country and the problems one of his sons has in the United States. "He doesn’t have any type  moral quality to criticize what I’ve done. I’m more serious than either him or his family."

Jiménez said as a result of the investigation Baní prosecutor Victor Cordero resigned from the post, after the Investigative Commission determined that he acted illegaly.

He also denied that Police general Hilario Gonzalez is his compadre and that the Commission determined that he didn’t have any culpability in the area’s cases.

Guerrero had accused Jiménez of whitewasing the Baní probe, and González and provincial governor Bienvenido Montero of being linked to drug trafficking.
