Close everything down at 9PM. That should lower crime and shut down all transportation Fri.Sat.Sun. Ban Presidente which is a taxable drug. Free ridership on the Metro which will not help me in Banica. Deport Lionely and his PLD to NYC.

SANTO DOMINGO.- Police chief Rafael Guzmán Fermín said Friday that the authorities are meeting with owners of clubs and bars to evalue the control measures on the sale of alcohol.
He said although the measures were eased because of the past elections, they’ll be strictly enforced in the future, to continue to lower the crime rates.
Guzmán, interviewed by the Corripio media group, said crime has fallen considerably this year.
He said patrols on foot, motorcycles and in vehicles have increased in the hours and places where they’re most needed and said for the first time the Police can handle all crimes committed in the country. “The National Police has the capacity to respond to all crimes committed in Dominican society.”

This article is a contradiction to the one written not even a week ago in which the chief of police says that crimes is declining. I have noticed there is two types of news the truth and the lies to keep tourism alive.

I think it's time for our people to demand more proactive, rather than reactive, appoaches to crime in our communities. before It's too late.

There will always be corruption, no matter who is in charge.
Alcohol,? It's detrimental to society.

yeah DR needs to open its citizenz minds and let them know that crime is not a way out...they also need to create more jobs for adults (educated or non-educated) and more activities for the youth to keep their minds on track...so simple yet .. not in their interest right now

the most idiotic thing I have ever seen are these "Drinks to Go' liquor stores.
Every night they are full of young people drunker then skunks.
There is nothing wrong with social drinking and bartenders who tell someone when they have had enough . But to sell fifths of whatever they want to kids who then hang out on the street corner enbriated is irresponsible. So they put in a curfew i see these places filling up at 4; 30 in the afternoon so all the Domionicans have done is adjust their activities around the curfew.
All these new road blocks/check points are useless they just pull over cars at random, rather then patrolling and harrass regular law abiding citizens. STUPIDITY!!!

How will the criminality problem be resolved, when the worst criminals are the ones working for the Police Department. The cleaning needs to start their, specially in those little towns where the people in charged have no respect for humanity and are not reprimanded when they violate people's civil rights.

i agree the police are very corrupt but i doubt they cause people to perform violent acts on each other..i think the problem is the poor or mentally ill people who do the actual crimes and those people dont get delt with in the correct manner....

Alcohol is not the problem. Our people have been drinking and smoking tobacco for a very long time and we've never had this level of violence. It has more to do with drug trafficking, lack of education, loss of values, and a permissive/ weak government that is afraid to even enforce our laws.

Here's the scenario I see:
Rampant Crime-
Drug use at an all time high and rising,
Delinquency completely out of hand,
Alcohol use constantly,
Respect for others vanishing,
Keeping up with the Joneses, everybody wants a piece of the pie.
There's only one way that any government can address these issues. Crack down on all aspects of entertainment: clubs, corner bars, "puntos". Roud-up pandillitas, ruffians, tumbadores, foreign criminal element, and recent arrivals (deportados) from los paises. That's all they can do.
Note: White collar crime, is never a problem!
Besides that, they can declare Martial Law. If things continue to detiriorate, that will surely happen. Mark my word!
That's what they want. They allow things to get completely chaotic, then they can use the alabi, that it was the only means of halting the escalation of crime.

Well, lets see. Is true that alcohol and tobacco might not be the only reason for the shootings that take place in the Dominican Republic. But what is? For example, last May I was in Puerto Plata, and out of no where a man was killed right in front of our eyes. Here is what I think. The number one thing we must do is implement a more rigid penalty for those who carry guns. A law such as the one in Florida would be perfect for the Dominican Republic. Two, we need to stop being so hot blooded, is really sad that Dominicans themselves are afraid to go to their own country. And three, we need to implement a program where citizens are not allowed to carry loaded guns. In conclusion, we need to take immediate action to take the guns of the street, it is not by buying more guns that the country gets safer but by getting it out. If the situation continues how it goes the right to bear arms will have to be withdrawn from the Dominican Constitution.

Well, the stats speak to the facts... And the facts show an increasing trend so, don't fall for the RD Gov press releases were the Jefe says that crime is down. When the original press release came out stating crime was down...I contradicted that it was NOT authentic but just propraganda.

I just wanna ask something........Who is going to do something about this issue in DR?
Is there any president or police deparment or is the DR just paying its money to lazy to continue stealing without doing anything helful?
From: United States
the law about carrying guns has been applied..you can not carry a loaded gun, the clip has to be separatly held, you have to have a gun license and the gun has to be registered...but the law is corrupted..so you slip them 200 pesos and you good.. thats the problem plus another thing is since the law does not crack down on criminals the way they should.. people take the law in their own hands and deal with the criminals by beating them ususally till they die..believe it...how do i know this, my uncle is a lawyer in DR and yes i kind of contradicted myself from my previous message but i ment to say that the police should enforce justice when dealing with guilty criminals
