Santo Domingo.- The communications and technology used during the political campaign that led to Barack Obama’s victory in the United States elections were key factors, said Monday two of the main creators of the “change” in that nation, during a dialogue hosed by the Global Foundation Democracy and Development (Funglode).

Anita Dunn, chief communications officer and top Obama campaign adviser, and Ben Self, Democratic Party technology director participated in the panel, with president Leonel Fernandez as special guest, and attended by Dominican political, business and social leaders.

Dunn, who spoke first in the panel moderated by Eduardo Gamarra, of Florida International University, referred to the incredulity four years ago of then senator Obama’s possibilities to be the United States President.

“Today many could say that Obama and his victory were something inevitable, for clear reasons, beginning with the way Bush governed, or for the crisis in the United States; the change U.S. demography. It didn’t matter who was the one of the radical change. But two years ago nobody would’ve said that Obama was going to be president of the United States, nobody had said that its victory was sure. What made the change?”

Self said the campaign knew to how to build an incredible movement using technological tools and street activism on foot. “How? Using technical traditional campaign of `Money, Message and Mobilization`, keys that we manage in different ways, using authentic interaction on the Web to commit the citizens in a new and exciting manner.”

Here, the three keys to election are; Money (giving it out to buy votes), Money Massage (getting the money into the hands of those who know how to use it to steal elections) ,and Money Mobilization (making sure that the right people get the new jeepetas).

Juanb, that maybe how things work in the RD but stateside politicians have a little more integrity relatively speaking. And if they do not then there are consequences to corruption (i.e. IL Gov). If this happened in the RD then there would be no justice (too many RD examples to name)

In the case of Obama, the level of integrity is much higher. For example, did all that mud-slinging get Hillary Clinton the Presidency?

Did you happen to notice that Obama refused to "play the game but preferred to lose the Presidency rather than say anything to get elected? Obama trusted and took his chances with the American people and fortunately came out a winner.

Lionel could learn alot from Obama (but probably not interested in learning). Where was Obama on Thanksgiving day? Serving poorer & homeless citizens a hot holiday dinner. Obama has put a new term in politics called "integrity & results oriented". This is something the staff in our US Embassy in Santo Domingo do NOT understa

That IS how things work here. The concept of working for the good of the country, rather than only for the benefit of a few rich people, a concept exhibited by Obama, is an idea that someday might applied here, but sadly, today it is completely lacking.

Obama won because there was no other viable choice, so let's quit to try basking in the winner's circle. If he had a viable and worthy opponent like Ronal Reagan he wouldn't have gotten that many votes in favor of his rookie dark horse candidacy.
Obama's victory was delivered to the democratic party by G.W. Bush terrible 8 years and even more
disastrous economic meltdowns. Had Hillary been the candidate democratic victory would have been even more dramatic in plain numbers.
Just like Hipoloco Mejia's nightmarish government slammed dunked two subsequent victories for Leonel Fernandez.
Had he have had a young Balaguer, Juan Bosch or Francis Caamaño opposing him he would have been in political retirement right now running his "Global Foundation".

Generoso, thanks for the feedback BUT there were choices. The prelim campaigns, primaries with general elections lasted 24 months! There were many Democratic contenders as well as Republican. Go back on this DT board & see how many wrote that Sara Palin was the new Reagan, a bulldog with lipstick etc etc.

Fortunately, now a days many of our children & grandchildren do NOT understand what the big deal is on RACE. Watching old films 60's riots is as ancient as the Mexican-American war, American youth are in the now. So, for them it was NOT much of a CHOICE of who was the better candidate especially when you got John McLame saying the economy is "basically sound"! WTF? BTW, record bankruptcies, foreclosures, gas prices for companies given tax breaks and the GOP agenda of less Gov yielded predatory lending & high risk banking which lead to you know what...economic collapses.

Look online at Charlotte (banking capital) for layoffs & now foreclosures!

A time will come and a man will come.
The time has come and the man has come.
Just as in football and basket ball when the teams are lousy and can not win ,they choose a black man to coach and bring the teams to victories.
George Bush messed up the country and turned into into the laughing stock of the world then we voted a black man to save the image of the country and turn things around.
When the white man wanted to build up this country ,he used they black man to do it,
Just Imagine athat ll the governememt building in Washinton DC including the white House were built by black men.
When we wanted to fight the Indian the Mexicans to take over their lands , to fight Germany we used the black man
If it is broken, let the black man fix it

While Lie-onel is wasting time and money analysing Obama's winning strategies, which are available free of charge over the net, here is a dose of real daily life for Dominicans in his METROLANDIA Paradise!

This is absolutely barbaric and appalling that this happens in a prosecutors office. They have no police protection, because all the cops are assigned to protect the wealthy and well connect ed and of course Vincho who has more security than the POTUS!

Hasta cuando dios mio, hasta cuando!

"... Look online at Charlotte (banking capital) for layoffs & now foreclosures!"

As someone who actually resides in Charlotte, NC I CAN tell you that things here although they were relatively safeguarded from the overwhelming effects of the recession in other parts of the country, have finally started to cave in. The banking landscape has taken on a new structure with mergers, layoffs and other strategical moves to try and counter-attack the inevitable.

The job market in Charlotte has been consistently deprived of oxygen for the last 6-12 months giving way to higher crime rates and a sharp increase in unemployment benefits applications. While all other cities in the US were experiencing abysmal housing prices, Charlotte seemed to have been immune to the trend. Now, as you might expect, Charlotte and the entire state of NC for that matter has conformed to the pitiful rest of the Union.

Instead talking about Obama strategy, why FUNGLODE don't find a strategy for improving electricity in the DR? Who cares that tech played an important role in Obama victory? The DR is a different country and we have different problems and ideas, so let's concentrate in finding solutions to our nightmares instead.

Interesting article today in the NY Times regarding Hillary Clinton confirmation hearings and talks about "large" DR contribution to the Clinton Foundation.
If we have all that money to be charitable and try buying hearts and minds, how about our poor?
This "donation" is scandalous if it came from Dominican Government coffers and no individual has the right to dispose of public moneys like they were his own, more so for political purposes.
