I guess a lot of people forget like Cibby That the United Nations established Israel. Israel did not steal the land from anybody and the vote was overwhelming in favor OF not against.
In 1922, the League of Nations entrusted Great Britain with the mandate for governing Israel. Britain was called upon to facilitate the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. One world war and a Shoah later, that nation kept its promise.
In November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution outlining the establishment of a Jewish state in British Palestinian territory. After six months of negotiation, the boundaries of the state of Israel were drawn. On May 14, 1948, the British government’s mandate over the Palestinian Territory expired. The new state was recognized by the U.S. government at 11 a.m. Israel time on May 14, and by the Russian government three days later.

I know how Isreal came about. You assume to much. I can go into the history going back to the Balfour declaration but that's all moot. Indeed I'm on stolen land but the Lenape are no longer here, the palestinians are and are still suffering. Indeed, the American government has realized that there were injustices committed against the natives in the past hence the special status awarded some reservations and tribes that managed to make it into this century. The fact is that the Arabs of this land were Bedouins who never settled anywhere but where their flocks of animals led them.
And by the way, all Arab citizens of the newly established country of Israel were given the opportunity to become citizens of the new state of Israel. Unfortunately, their leaders urged them to flee and then again urged them to fight the Jews in 1948.
The Arabs of Israel live better than the Arabs of almost every nation in the Middle East. They are allowed to worship as they wish, have access to some of the best schools in the world and some of the best health care in the world.

It seems to me that most of the forum did not even read this article completely since this joint statement is being interpreted as anti-Israel rather than anti-violence. If we stick to the statement's wording as quoted in the article, we should note that the summit not only rejects the excessive use of force by Israeli forces, but, likewise, condemns the launching of rockets from Gaza into Israel. Most of the comments in this thread are just plain old and bellicose American fanaticism, a fanaticism that mirrors the Taliban’s. Though I admit that Chávez often acts like a major clown, unlike the fanaticism that has prevailed in the White House during the past eight years, Chávez's fanaticism has not produced hundreds of thousands of deaths all over the Middle East.

Leonel is making a mistake. Israel has the right to defend itself, but also war is a terrible thing to have. The best thing for the DR is not take part, but to keep the country neutral. The country has no influence in the world and the best thing is to keep their mouth shut. The UN is useless and it can only intervene in poor nations like Haiti and the DR because none of our country has military power. See what Russia did to Georgia and the UN did nothing to stop Russia. The USA can also invade any country and the UN cannot do anything about it. Anyway, in World War II, the DR was neutral and that is how the DR must be. Be friend of everyone.

On your other point initial muslim conquests DID NOT cause a jewish diaspora. Exactly(and it happened during the forties and fifities, not 48 specifically). They were expelled from the lands they ORIGINALLY hailed from because of their religion. It's not a hard concept to understand. Be that as it may it doesn't mean that Isreal was their rightful home even though it became so by force. What about the Palestinians that were indeed expelled from Palestine proper where they were actually from during the same period? I guess they are of no consequence to you. I recall a girl of palestinian origin wo went to public school with me. I got to know her brothers and the rest of her family through the years. Salt of the earth people who wouldn't hurt a fly. Hey SR. Cibaneo,
Have you ever been to Israel? You say maybe my ancestors were there? I believe historical facts prove the Israelites were the very first civilization there?
I do not need to debate this fact; it is well documented.
I know that for thousands of years, the world has tried to exterminate the Jews.
My grandfather had whip marks on his back, courtesy of the czar's army, trying in get him to convert.
As an 11 year old, he marched across Europe to travel to America, arriving with 10 cents in his pocket, armed only with his faith and determination to return to "Eretz Israel".
He returned to his and our original homeland, where my relatives created a modern and flourishing civilization in one generation.
Growing up, my uncle had many Arab neighbors who never complained of their lot in life.
It was when Arafat and his thugs started acting up, killing Israeli Olympic heroes in Munich (that not true?) that Palestinian nationalism began brewing.
We say...."Dayenu".

I ask, "Why have the Palestinians not made one attempt to build a society based on goodness, hard work and education?" Instead, their's is a culture of hate and killing.
Israelis do not want neighbors who lob thousands of missiles at their schools. They do not want neighbors who strap the most hideous bombs to their bodies and walk into crowded pizzerias and discos to blow themselves and anyone nearby up.
They want neighbors who will be like they are....hard working, self reliant, educated and decent people who want the best for their children.
My cousin died in the most despicable bombing, in the cafeteria of a university, where she had gone, along with dozens of Arab students just to eat.
With neighbors like this, that is why a fence was constructed and these cowardly acts stopped.
Time to send Hamas to heaven or hell, along with their notions of what the map should look like.
We say..."Dayenu" enough!!!

Israel is dead wrong in the slaughter of innocent civilians; there aren't any rational excuses for the carnage of 300+ children victims of this willy-nilly, helter-skelter "Blitzkrieg".
The Holocaust did happen; However, anyone's death is a loss not just Ashkenzi Jews!
The death of innocent children caught in the midst of war betwen a band of Guerrilas fighting the world's best equipped (they have the atom bomb) little nation, does not excuse Israel from their atrocious attacks. There's no escuse.
I don't see eye to eye with Socialists on many issues; Yet, here I must concede with all those that condemn these attack as barbaric: I'm human and can see the suffering of innocent infants. Remember, "Never Again"?

Hey Arsenio,
Shouldn't the Hamas government have some accountability for continuing the firing of missles at Israel from schools, hospitals and even UN buildings. Do you expect the Israelis to just continue to let it happen.
Even after a cease-fire was enacted yesterday, hamas fighter shot off 10 missles at Israel.
What is never mentioned is that Hamas uses children and women to hide behind.
What is never mentioned is that Hamas asks for the aggression by being aggressive.
They have weapons tunnels under schools, mosques and hospitals; a trick they learned from Hizzbullah in Lebanon.
You are just being swayed by the pro-Hamas PR campaign that only recognizes Israeli actions.
Yesterday AM, a missle hit a synagogue in the south. No mention anywhere in any media.
Why the double standard?
Shame on Hamas for thinking their actions will go unanswered.
I am very sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians, but they voted in these bastards, thinking they were the solution.

from todays NYT......"Hamas is the dominant organization in Gaza,” a top military official said in a briefing last week that was given on condition of anonymity. “They are the regime and feel very connected to the people. They do not want to lose that connection to the people.”
The Israeli theory of what it tried to do here is summed up in a Hebrew phrase heard across Israel and throughout the military in the past weeks: “baal habayit hishtageya,” or “the boss has lost it.” It evokes the image of a madman who cannot be controlled.
“This phrase means that if our civilians are attacked by you, we are not going to respond in proportion but will use all means we have to cause you such damage that you will think twice in the future,” said Giora Eiland, a former national security adviser...

Europe 's view of the present Israeli offensive against Hezbollah as an "overreaction" and "disproportionate use of force" is rooted in relatively recent history, say progressive researchers. In 1943, Europe itself suffered from a similar Jewish overreaction to some controversial German policies, in an event known as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, when Zionist radicals attacked the National Socialist German Workers Party that was loved by the German people for its far-reaching educational and social welfare services. In fact, many academics who teach Peace Studies at prestigious universities believe that it was the Zionists' "disproportionate use of force" that had ruined hopes for peace in Europe and caused a humanitarian crisis that could have easily be avoided if only Jews had shown restraint and tolerance towards the democratically elected German government.

As ethical human beings we consider it our obligation to:
do all we can to allow the information to be diffused as widely and as quickly as possible;
ensure the argument of the oppression and disenfranchisement of the Palestinian people stays in the forefront; present as clear and honest a picture as possible of the meaning of Zionism and the Jewish State; to cross the divide and to unite in our war against the Zionist crime.
We accept and believe in equality of all persons, regardless of their race, religion, political or other orientation. We believe that full and unconditional support of the Palestinian people is a condition sine qua non for activists to adopt, and we recognise that their attachment to their homeland is a fundamental and unalterable condition. To that end we advocate for two non unified States with equal rights for all its citizens.

Any attempts at censoring reasoned critique of Israel and Zionism must be refused a priori, as it is in conflict with the goal of seeking to protect and support the Palestinian people - as their empowerment is the only way to peaceful coexistence for all the populations of the Middle East. Any attempts at dictating what the Palestinians should do will be looked upon with great circumspection and suspicion. Palestinians themselves wish to construct their own future and are not pawns to be shifted on the chessboard. We demand free speech for sincere critics of Zionism and call for an end to campaigns created in order to ostracise its most vocal critics. Smear campaigns will not be tolerated, as we recognise that they are the instrument of choice of Zionists, and detract energy from our work.

The point is that the area had an autochtonous population already in place that were displaced to accomodate another group who's claim to the land is based on scripture! That's a crime and a shame.
Indeed I'm on stolen land but the Lenape are no longer here, the palestinians are and are still suffering. Indeed, the American government has realized that there were injustices committed against the natives in the past hence the special status awarded some reservations and tribes that managed to make it into this century. So I see. Your whole thing is that might makes right. As for labeling me an anti semite that's preposterous. Never once have I attacked the Jewish faith.
BTW Israel is here to stay, so point in debating it. I wish the puppets would have strongly condemned the daily rocket attacks in Israel as strongly as they deny Israel has a right to defend its citizens from the daily terror attacks launched from a terrorist organization.
What about the rights of the Palestinian people to have a nation in the land that there forefathers knew all to well? I guess it doesn't matter that they're the real inhabitants of the area. Indeed Isreal isn't going anywhere. It's existence is a fait accompli. But that doesn't mean that the world should sit silently while they do as they wish to the people of Gaza. And I am no puppet. I have no paymaster nore am I of Arab extraction. I just recognize injustice when I see it.

Anyway, the jewish claim to the land is based on scripture and nothing else. Most Isreali jews have roots in Europe or in other Middle Eastern nations. Only a very small fraction of Isreal's jews can claim greatgrandparents from the region and that's a fact.

History goes back a little farther back than grandparents.
I'm glad someone noticed. Damn right I'm angry. There's alot of BS in this world that I'm not happy about and the plight of the palestinian people is one of them.
The only question you posed to me, namely concerning if I reside on stolen land, I answered. I saw no other question marks indicating that you were asking something of me. In the future those would help. Now what is it that you wish to ask me?
Don't need a nap. I'm in my prime. You on the other hand either just got up from one or are planning to take one very soon. Which one is it?
The fact is that the Arabs of this land were Bedouins who never settled anywhere but where their flocks of animals led them.
And by the way, all Arab citizens of the newly established country of Israel were given the opportunity to become citizens of the new state of Israel. Unfortunately, their leaders urged them to flee and then again urged them to fight the Jews in 1948.
The Arabs of Israel live better than the Arabs of almost every nation in the Middle East. They are allowed to worship as they wish, have access to some of the best schools in the world and some of the best health care in the world.
As a fact, there are no Jews in any Middle Eastern country who are allowed to worship or even allowed citizenship.
My relatives in Israel say, "Dayenu"...enough.
Walnut brings up a good point. Most Jews were expelled from Arab lands in 1948 and disposessed of all property. They went to Israel at the time. I guess they lay no claim or right to living there as well. You don't have to back up your credentials of Jewish friends from Boro Park. You have become very defensive. Why is that? It just seems you are seething with hatred for Israel. I won't point it out anymore I can see you are very touch and sensitive when critizced.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard walnut. Your laying claim to a land because your ancestors might've been there thousands of years ago? LOL That's hilarious. On your other point initial muslim conquests DID NOT cause a jewish diaspora. Jews were widespread in the meditteranean basin already early in the roman era and many of islams' great medieval cities boasted LARGE jewish populations (Perhaps they left palestine because of the muslims to again settle among muslims elsewhere? Ridiculous). You can look that up.
"The fact is that the Arabs of this land were Bedouins who never settled anywhere but where their flocks of animals led them."
According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, that is false. The bedouins in Palestine are not considered autochtonous to the region but instead are considered true arabs. They are distinct from the native palestinians, who are considered an arabized people as opposed to true arabs, and this distinction becomes apparent in the speech of the native palestinians and the bedouin nomads in the area. They both speak distinct arab dialects. You can look that up.

Segura to UAE
Radhames Segura, executive vice president of the Dominican Corporation of State Electricity Enterprises (CDEEE) will head a commission that travels today to the United Arabian Emirates to follow up on the possibility of securing funds that would contribute to alleviate the ongoing electricity problems, as reported in Hoy. Segura, in his third term as head of electricity matters for a Fernandez administration, had betted on installing two coal-fired power plants, but had to abort this plan when financing was not secured.
The first sentence pretty much sums up the "why" part of the Israeli attack.
"Israel launched its military offensive on Dec. 27 to try to halt near-daily Hamas rocket attacks against southern Israel. Palestinian medics say the fighting has killed at least 1,140 Palestinians — roughly half of them civilians — and Israel's bombing campaign caused massive destruction in the Gaza Strip. Thirteen Israelis have been killed, four by rocket fire and nine in ground battles in Gaza, according to the government."

"You say maybe my ancestors were there? I believe historical facts prove the Israelites were the very first civilization there?
I do not need to debate this fact; it is well documented."
And? If so does that give you a right to the land? According to my genetic profile my paternal ancestors were somewhere from southwestern europe in the remote past. Does that mean that I have a claim to that land somehow? The jewish claim on israel is based on a religious ethos and nothing else. That should be no basis for international law. The rest of your post is nothing but anecdotes and personal opinions and bears little weight on anything. It doesn't negate anything I've written and you have wisely chosen not to challenge what I have proven to be not true from your intial posts, namely that the jewish dispora was started during the age of the muslim conquest of palestine, which is false, and that the paestnians are all bedoiuns, which is also false.

TH, that's Israel's version of events. It's becoming obvious that they have lied about their knowledge of the UN compounds (check the news stories I already posted and no they're not from wikipedia) that the IDF bombed what's to say that everything else that the IDF is feeding the press isn't also false?
Morning goulet..i woke up early to go horse back riding...I'm in the poconos until the evening...nothing like horseback riding on a wintery morning.
I do not want to debate history with you.
Fact is, the Jews are in Israel and will be until folks like you drive us into extinction. However, that will never happen.
Learn to respect us and we will respect you.
Maybe go back to horseback riding in the Poconos on stolen Indian land in the freezing cold. Your brain, senses and heart has been numbed by the cold.
As I have stated before, "Dayenu"

Hey is GC is there a ban now on Canadian geese travelling or are they persona non-grata in the USA, I am taking offense personally. I will refer this to my US wildlife counter part, you have been warned, they will carry other mission just like the one you witness in the hudson river.

The Israeli theory of what it tried to do here is summed up in a Hebrew phrase heard across Israel and throughout the military in the past weeks: “baal habayit hishtageya,” or “the boss has lost it.” It evokes the image of a madman who cannot be controlled.
“This phrase means that if our civilians are attacked by you, we are not going to respond in proportion but will use all means we have to cause you such damage that you will think twice in the future,” said Giora Eiland, a former national security adviser...http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/19....eeast/19assess.html?th&emc=th
Come on Hamas has been indiscriminately attacking Israel for years, where was the outcry then. Where was Mr. Fernandez' call for the stop of that violence!! He is trying to play in the big boys league and is only being manipulated and embarrassing himself and the Dominican people. He has lost touch with reality and what is important and the Dominican people are suffering for it. When are the Dominican people going to stand up for their dignity?!
In regards to Israel ... you have to hit them until they are down and out..... Israel must continue until they have broken the will of the terrorist whose life's mission is to destroy not only Israel but all Christian infidels (yes that means you, your family and your way of life), so wake up !!
"I do not want to debate history with you."
A wise choice seeing as you have no grasp on the subject.
Play numbers today goulet...indeed I was in Washington yesterday and it was something else...how on earth did you know that?
If I had seen cheney he would've gotten the middle finger. I worked my way to DC over the weekend and stayed at some freinds who live in Alexandria. Goulet, I've never seen anything like the crowds in DC. Imagine time square on new year's eve. Now spread the same density of people over an entire downtown and then some! It was surreal. I found myself grumbling about the madness during the day but in retrospect I'm glad I was part of the festivities.
I read most of the posts to find out why D ( no time wasted having mistaken DR for D) joins the US and vetoes the UN on resolutions that are plain as day most of the times. On the other hand, I have many friends from DR and my sister in law is Dominican. My wife is Irish and my children are proud Palestinians. Historians call me a product of the Nakse and I have been healing from the devastation of the many wars that I and my parents witnessed in the Holy Lands.

- Two State solution till our Messeeh comes on his own without being ushered;
- Deal with the massive numbers of refugees and massive numbers of illegal building of Jewish settlements and the illegal demolishing of Palestinian homes; including retributions...it will be cheaper to the US and would turn around to benefit ALL.
- Define the borders, including splitting up Jerusalem into East and West and declaring the Old Walled portion as international since we do not have the wisdom of Solomon (when he offered to cut the baby in half to find out to which mother the baby really belongs to).

Peace without peace?
Isreal is not done with Hamas: two more weeks and there will be an all out assault again because the Hamas rockets have not stopped. An absent kindergarten was hit Saturday, but the world's media ignores this action and makes Hamas the sole victims of big bad Israel. Wait til Bibi is in office.
Fact is Bibi will be in charge next week and enough of the soft peddeling to the world, UN and US.
Look what Russia did to Chechnya or Georgia-massive attacks to civilian areas that killed thousands. Where was the outrage? and yet missles continue.
Where is your outrage for Darfur? Mumbai? Bali? Pakistan? Afghanistan? You are just programmed by the world's media to beat up Israel. Somehow the guys running Hamas are portrayed as the victims. It is the people who elected these thugs, who terrorize neighborhoods like mobsters and criminals that are victims.Hamas that the world wants to protect?
Is the moon made of cheese too? Is up now down?
When the Muslims accept the state of Israel that day the peace process begin
Did you experience collateral human carnage in your family? ..or your neighbors’ house demolished? Human decency cries out for justice to end the occupation of Palestine and to give the Palestinians the right to return home..I find Norman very human...his attackers like Allen Dershowitz...coy with words and very little decency....a bright mind that can get you off the hook when you murder even your very own wife..that much decency he has.
A Palestinian voice like NF..not a bad idea. What democracy?. do you suppose NF is passing the scrutiny of AIPEC or CAMERA..or the likes or has not and is not paying a price
Along the way, zealous people on both sides have caused countless problems.
My aunt still mourns the loss of her daughter like it just happened. Our whole families lives changed.
We can not negotiate with psychopaths.
The right to return home does not mean the end of Israel. Will the missles than stop? Hardly.
How come for the "countless previous generations" there were not any stories of neighbors butchering each other in the many neighborhoods where the children of Abraham lived next to each other?
Who went after Iraq and was responsible for the slaughter of about 2,000-4,000 Americans and
100,000 Iraqi civilians (collateral carnage?) and 1,000,000 plus more "psychopaths”?...who and what is a psychopath?
Listen also to Noam Chomsky on Charlie Rose - for the reasons and the factual records for the blame of the slaughter of your family and mine.
hint...US failed policy and petting of Israel...a country disgracing the meaning of this wonderful Hebrew word with a flag displaying Holy colors. Can you blame the "psychopaths" for suggesting that the two blue ribbons represent the Zionist’s colonial dreams of securing the lands between the Nile-to-Euphrates? What is today's date"? What would King David say to that?

As ethical human beings we consider it our obligation to:
do all we can to allow the information to be diffused as widely and as quickly as possible;
ensure the argument of the oppression and disenfranchisement of the Palestinian people stays in the forefront; present as clear and honest a picture as possible of the meaning of Zionism and the Jewish State; to cross the divide and to unite in our war against the Zionist crime.

We will not hesitate to expose the instrumental usage of them, no matter the claimed principles of those who are engaged in creating such campaigns. On the other hand, open dialogue and reasoned argumentation is welcome and greatly encouraged as a tool to understanding and collaboration.
The indigenous people of Palestine are facing extermination by the hands of the Jewish State, and the world keeps silent. The sooner we draw public attention to Israel's needless wanton destruction, the sooner we can do away with this horrifying, insufferable situation.
PLEASE, sign the petition if you share our concerns.
