Agriculture, Customs return 56 containers shipped with forged documents

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Agriculture Ministry and Customs Agency (DGA) sent 56 containers of tainted potatoes back to Holland, affirming that it didn’t comply with international sanitary norms, and said an investigation is underway to determine who allowed part of the shipment to enter even after it had been banned.

They said several companies and customs agents forged official documents to violate Customs regulations, and notified Dutch authorities of the contaminated soil found in the potato cargo.

Customs and Agriculture said part of the potato shipment unloaded at Caucedo Multimodal Port was traced to some businesses, and was immediately seized for reshipping to the country of origin.

Agriculture said sanitary inspectors went to where the potatoes were transported to fumigate the soil residues.

Who knows who or why they imported these European potatoes.
Maybe they want to make a huge mashed potato plate to feed the hungry.
Or some big wheel really likes European French Fries. ( Maybe Luis Alvarez Renta in Najayo prison)
Or they want to remember Dan Potatoe Quayle the original Sarah Palin.
Or they wanted them to make good vodka here.
Who knows!

growing potatoes in the DR is dumb so are onions and with Cafta in a few years they wont be grown here either....It is much cheaper tom import them....when the taxes fade away a Dominican Potato will be a rarity ....they sux anyway

Some Dominican farmer(s) paid of somebody from the customs not to enter this potato's !
Somebody at this Forum asked; why do we need to import Potato's ?
BECAUSE OUR POTATO'S SUCK !!!
If you would have lived in Europe or the US once, you would understand what i' am
talking about. Our Potato's start to stink and get rotten after 1 week if you don't store them in the fridge. In Europe you buy a bag of 100lb. twice a year and use them for 6 month !

Studies show that those potatoes can push girls to puberty at the age of 10. That's what's happening in the U.S. Don't trust these manufactured potatoes. Even Mugabe from Zambabwe rejected them.

Josean, I suppose DR is following PR's model with urban sprawl and pretty soon will run out sufficient arable land to sustain itself. We keep on planting concrete and steel bars where we should be growing food. Matter of time before most food will have to be imported.

It's a waste of foreign currency as well, at a time when the things that DR has no choice but to import will be getting pricier and pricier.
