SANTO DOMINGO.- Anti-Corruption Department (DPCA) director Octavio Líster said of the 227 cases received against officials in the last four years and 5 months,  145 have had definitive sentences.

He said reported corruption acts took place in the military, departments, city councils and even against Justice Ministry representatives.

He said the DPCA has 23 case with recommendation to file charges; 105 lack evidence, 13 have been heard in the courts including Samaná, Montecristi and Valverde, and four others sealed.

He said the judicial processes which have concluded with definitive sentences include the case of the greenhouses, with the acquittal of all those accused; 10 people were convicted in Plan Renove, although nine have been released, some because they served their sentence and others pardoned, except Fabio Ruiz, who remains in the jail at Najayo.

Lister also noted that former Border Development Agency director Yorman Solano Vásquez is still in Montecristi’s prison, serving a three year sentence for corruption.

Among other cases pending in the courts figure the one against ex Dominican State Electrical Companies (CDEEE) administrator Cesar Sanchez, charged with embezzling the sovereign bonds destined for the construction of the Santiago-Santo Domingo electrical highway, and the ex- Air Force officials Virgilio Sierra Perez, Luis Benito Peralta and Eldito Méndez Casanova, charged with selling three military jet turbines in the United States and Colombia.

The DPCA director also cited the cases against officials of several City councils, charged with corruption after audits conducted by the Accounts Chamber.
