SANTO DOMINGO. - The Seized Assets Safeguard Office handed over numerous properties seized in the case of the failed bank Baninter, to the Central Bank’s Liquidation Commission, which said they’ll be auctioned.

In compliance with the Court of Appeals Chamber Penal sentence, ratified by the Supreme Court last year, the entity transferred to the Central Bank the confiscated assets.

The seized goods are the company MEDCOM, S.A., that include RNN (Channel 27), Telecentro (Channel 13), Ringo Records, RCC Records, Belleza Dominicana, among other media, said its Juan Matos director.

Also three aircraft, radio stations across the country, and two properties of former Baninter president Ramon Baez Figueroa located in Casa de Campo’s Marina.

The Office gave to the Central Bank Liquidation Commission the financial statements on the assets seized after the 74 billion peso (US$2.5 billion) fraud, but didn’t specify their value.

Commission member Luis Piña said the inventories will now be verified and the properties appraised, to put them on auction, according to the Law.

The Commission said it’ll continue looking for other Baninter assets which aren’t in the sentence to confiscate and auction them, but affirmed that employees of those companies will continue to work normally, changing only the administration.

These people had impeccable taste in boats; too bad they were so crooked. I spend a great deal of time here fishing for king salmon and could really use one of these beauties.

By the way, I went to school with a Ramon Baez from DR who came from a very rich family. I believe his major was printing technology or something similar. Short and skinny guy of about 5'5" and wore glasses. Could it be same guy? Anybody has any information on this guy? Please share your knowledge.

glomarexplorer, the fact that he (the guy you reference) was from a very rich family suggests that it might very well be this guy. they are the ones in the seats of privilege and access to do the mega-stealing.

Dreads,
Thanks. Back in school he seemed like a nice guy and we did many things together. I even took him out to various car dealerships to look for a sports car. He bought a Camaro and only bought liability insurance. His father said not to spend more money on insurance because he would just buy him another car if he trashed it. He brought me a box of Auroras once from DR, and we dined at Meson de la Caba when I last visited DR many years ago. Never would have thought he was a crook. Man, you just can't trust anybody!

at least he carried insurance in the USA, because you cannot buy your way out of a ticket for no insurance there. in the DR, he probably would have no insurance, and have any cop who stopped him thrown in jail for insubordination.
