SANTO DOMINGO.- The Justice Ministry arranged the lease of 19 boats and businesses and starting this month will also rent 12 luxury apartments located in Malecon Center, a helicopter and eight apartments located in Bavaro, as part of the properties seized from the Benítez brothers in La Altagracia tourism region.

An aqua park, a 100 room hotel on Bavaro’s coast and several lots and a villa will also be rented, according to German Miranda, head of the Justice Ministry’s Anti-laundering Unit.

One of the rentals is the supermarket FoodServis and/or Columbus, located in front of Higüey’s Basilica, for which Maria Santana Guerrero will pay 10 to RD$15,000 monthly, whereas the company Global Eclipse Investments was rented by the Spaniard Rubén Ramos, who deposited US$2,600 and will pay US$1,300 monthly.

The Cuban-American Eduardo Hernandez Negrete rented 19 boats and three trucks in Bavaro, with a deposit of RD$2 million and US$5,000 monthly, and the motel Vista Bavaro, on the Bavaro-Punta Cana highway, was rented by Lorenzo Areché Melo, with a deposit of RD$1 million and RD$300,000 monthly.

Maximo Guilamo Alfonso rented the two story house for RD$15,000 per month, also seized from the Benítezes, whereas the “Casa de la Virgen" was lent to the Catholic Church for a penitentiary project.

Miranda said he requested two external auditors to follow up on the procedures subsequent to the rentals.

The brothers Carlos Manuel, Jose and Luis Manuel Benítez are wanted in connection with a US$110 million fraud against the Medicare in Florida.

there is no process, GC. it is simply a case of political rewards to the faithful adherents. sadly, there is no end in sight for this type of approach. you and i will never live to see the day when items like these are put up tp public bidding. it is a closed, feudal society, run by a bunch of untouchables, who do as they wish. democracy is a long way off.

WOW ! If that Helicopter is a Robinson 4 seater R-44 or even a 2- seater R-22 with low hours and a proper maintained Log records I'll take it, I'm sure I won't be able come close in cost with the Bull S**t the Dominican Customs and Government Aviation Nuts gives, heck I'm sure I can purchase a brand new one from the Robinson Company at Torrence Municipal Air port in California for more then half the price, then to only get screwed $$$$$$ BIG TIME bringing it in Country.
