SANTO DOMINGO.- Emergency Operations Center (COE) director Juan Manuel Méndez said 30 people died and 407 were affected during the holidays, which included the Christmas and New Year festivities.

He said of the 30 deceased, 28 died in traffic accidents and two for alcohol overdose.

Of the affected, severe injuries among them, 56 were for alcohol overdose, traffic accidents and eight from food poisoning. Of 173 traffic accidents reported so far, 165 motorcycles and 87 other vehicles were involved.

The COE chief said most of the people who died were from Santo Domingo, National District, Samaná, Monte Plata, La Vega, San Cristóbal and Espaillat provinces.

They do tend to get carried away don't they. Of course that number does not include the "normal" day to day robberies gone bad, etc., etc.

The number that you are referring to ( 31) are the number of homicide in Venezuela on the night of the 31st, less remember that Caracas is one of the most violent cities in the world.
