Santo Domingo.- As parents flock to the stores to buy presents for their children for Monday’s Three Kings Day celebrations, the Educating for Peace Inter-institutional Committee (Ciepaz) has called on parents to buy their children educational toys and games.

Ciepaz coordinator Aldenia Marte, stressed the influence that the "Educating for Peace" campaign had achieved since it started its work in 1998 in reducing the sale of violent toys, with the aim of changing violent behavior among children to tolerance.

“According to one of the country’s toy importers, before we started campaigning their sales of violent toys made up 30% and since then it has gone down to 7%”, said Marte.

She added that this initiative was founded as a result of a process started by the National District Prosecutor’s Office.

She praised the response from several toy stores that have taken on the task of promoting educational toys, and the fact that some have even completely stopped selling violent toys.

Marte said that over the last ten years the “Educating for Peace” campaign had succeeded in persuading people that violent toys did affect the levels of violence in society.

The violence that the children will learn will come from the toys we buy them ,but from the stupid wars videos that they watch on TV.
Monitor what they watch on TV is the best fisrt step

Violence is basic human nature.
We fought and killed each other before Video games, before Hip-Hop. before TV. Before Movies, Before Radio.............
Before recorded history.

Nobody ever killed anybody because they were given a video game or a toy gun.

A trade in could be organised. Boys used to play with bows and arrows used by Robin Hood in persuing social justice. Now they play with machine gun toys used by armies such as the US to invade Cuba and Vietnam etc.

Caution folks GC has no Kama at the moment. His business proposal to set up a mock Gestapo HQ for his Dominatrix/Sado-masacist crowd in the Colonial Zone have been set back - he might even be forced to repay a loan for this unworthy venture. Plus he has a shortage of willing maidens! So his next venture - a trip for Nudists to Antartica in an old U-boat!

Could GC grow a brain?
I have not researched my redneck joke of the day - it will follow. Please fans bear with me!

What about stopping our children from reading the most violent book on earth.
I will not even dare naming the title of the book so I do not get attacked by the fanatics.
Name the book if you dare !!!!!

Tanks abc200 for this site.
As a guitar player I may steal some licks.
I was a litlle troubled by the hyprocrisy of the article that failed to denounce the most violent and vicious men and nations in the world.
Toys do not teach our children to be violent, fanatics and intolerant people do
