Qurino Paulino on route to New York.
Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo. - Quirino Ernesto Paulino “El Don,” who is awaiting trial on drug trafficking and money laundering charges in New York Federal Court, is allegedly revealing to investigators his links with politicians and senior military officers, in Dominican Republic’s biggest narcotics case.

Investigators and documents are revealing the names of senior military officers and politicians, and to “forge ahead” with possible accusations against some of these, with sufficient evidence for a trial, the Government will have to show its “political will.”

Nevertheless investigators say they are confidence they‘ll take to court those implicated in the case, as president Leonel Fernandez in his latest speech to the nation, assured that in the war against drug trafficking and organized crime there are neither sacred cows nor privileged rank.

Paulino allegedly told investigators he had contributed funds to different parties during the political campaigns during his apogee as visible head of the narcotics traffickers ring that operated until his December 2004 arrest, but officially only his swearing in as the opposition PRD party’s campaign chief in the southwest has been registered in the press.

His serious links with the military, which traverse the nation’s latest administrations, are also part of the investigation, including names of senior military officers and who are considered as having close ties with high profile politicians.

The documents are so voluminous that there seem to be no doubt that “El Don” operated his drug trafficking business with the unlimited collaboration of the high ranks of military, as well as political leaders.

New processes

Around 20 people, in New York as well as in Dominican Republic would be in new cases for their link to Paulino’s drug trafficking operations between 1998 and 2004, period in which the network introduced an estimated more than 33 tons of pure cocaine to U.S. territory.

I love it!

Just not sure, why it is taking so long to make more forward progress. The arrest was in 2004 and four (4) years later we are still trying to solidify the list of names? That's alot of time and we seem to be more reactive in the drug war vs. proactive.

It goes without saying, new RD Gov & military officials have moved in to fill the void that Paulino. How long will it take us to be able to go after the drug lords & Tigueres dealing drugs today? Is there a 4 year plus lag for this as well?

Lets get the party (extraditions) started! And I hope the US judicial system does NOT cut any deals in order to send a strong message to the current drug runners who also collect fat paychecks in RD Gov offices. Let's give them all ... jail cells in real US prisons with the brothas on the block! Start with HippoLoco.

Does this mister has a name?

Mr. Quirino contributed a lot to Hipo's campaign, a picture of them (with some other people) was published on the papers at the time he was captured.

This story is so wrong in so many levels...

fFrst, we have a prisoner, in handcoffs, in what appears to be a private jet. While using a cell phone (I was under the impression that they were contraband).

Second, we read that supposedly Quirino states that he "contributed" funds to "diffrent political parties". And we still have people that believe that any one political party is above the other.

And finally, and probably most importantly, Are these people reporters or soapopera writers? They always publish a story about how some big name revalation is about to be made, yet the names are abscent every single time. They have no backup questions...?????

People we have to realize that we are allowing these so called politicians to take our beloved country straight to hell.

This is nothing new. Around the world you'll find military personnels involved in drug trafficking. Corruption and greed are everywhere as long as there is something called "MONEY".
