SANTO DOMINGO.- Haiti’s Ambassador in Dominican Republic said his government isn’t satisfied with the solution given to the conflict of the around more than 500 Haitians who occupied a Catholic church in Dajabon (northwest).
Fritz Cineas said the Haitians acted in “good faith” and were promised they could return after the Christmas period but when they tried, they were told they couldn’t stay in Dominican territory because they were illegal.
Cineas’s statement came after the Border Guard and the Army yesterday repatriated most the Haitians at the Dajabon crossing to Ouanaminthe, although the authorities allowed 80 immigrants who had Immigration cards to stay in Dominican territory.

Generoso in my humble estimation Haiti is a lost case, a country that's becoming a desert with a burgeon population lack of water no real infrastructure no goverment. What can you expect will happen, either we meet them at the border and just start slaughtering them, or we just let them rule us for 22 years so like that we let the haitian appeasers get a taste of haitian governance. Then if those idiots feel good two things will happen an all out war. Or integration, but i think the first will come about sooner before a year ends.

Haiti Ambassador to the D.R. should be ashame of himself as should be governments whose citizens have no alternatives but to seek other nations in order to survive and to feed their families. Dominicans flee to the U.S. mainly cause they are ignorant and don't know the facts about how the U.S. is and once there most live worse than in D.R. but since its in the U.S. that they live is all O'K. The Haitian come to D.R. in search of anything that will put a couple of pesos in their pockets and other reasons but the majority are exploited for some sort of labor that native Dominicans for the most part will not do. Same as in the U.S. same as any where else -- exploit the people who are usually foreign. Foreign investors exploit Dominicans and the Dominican government legally allow it.

HUMAN RIGHTS DELEGATION REPORT ON HAITIANS IN THE BAHAMAS
serious problem arising from citizenship policy, as applied, is pervasive social discrimination against Haitians. The scheme in effect creates a two-tier, segregated society in which Haitians face unequal treatment in the workplace, at school, and even on the streets. Two Bahamian clerks at a well-known Freeport hotel laughed when members of the delegation inquired whether or not Haitians worked at the hotel counter with them. “They can’t work here!” they exclaimed. “They work in the laundry.”However, the Bahamian policy of denying citizenship even to Haitians born in the country surpasses the United States in entrenching intense social division and hatred. Further, it establishes what is virtually a caste system, permitting the government to deny equal rights to all those of Haitian descent, generations after their ancestors have arrived in the country.

Mr. Devin 11 best wishes to you. I grew up in the U.S., attended all my educations from primary school to college. I'm a U.S. Army and Navy veteran and still live in the U.S., but unlike most people that travel or who immigrate to the U.S. thinking that once there all of their problems are solve, I don't live that illusion. I'm Dominican and had not become a U.S. citizen cause it was not my decision to immigrate to the U.S. that was my mother choosing. So today I also live in D.R. with my wife and children still working to make my life and their a better. No one is giving us any hand-out nor are we begging instead we working as best we can to build our house and this any healthy men and women can do the same if they really want to. Although my comments may sound a national pride I look at the whole picture and see in upper Manhattan just how Dominicans live. I also work with many Dominicans who are not able to travel like I do. Life is a battle and for some is less.

hvargas,
Thank you for you response and best wishes to you as well. Your situation is not typical of the millions of Dominicans that live in extreme hardship and lack even the most basic human needs. About 40% of the countries population lives below the poverty line. The economic realities for these people and standard of living whose social indicators are below that of countries such as Sri Lanka is deplorable. These people are not leaving the country due to "ignorance", they are leaving and risking there lives to do so in order to survive and partake in a hope that is not existent in their current situation. I respectfully disagree with you that once they arrive in the US they live worse than in the DR as they are provided with proper medical care, infrastructure, education and vastly greater economic viability and opportunity. By your suggestion that these people are not leaving DR because the conditions do not merit their actions, you undermine the sad reality of the situation.

Some facts from experiences and so called extreme poverty. In every Dominican family there is at least one family member that is either self-employed, semi-employed and or fully employed. This is taking place in my neighborhood and many of these people hang-out in the corner waiting for one of the group who will provide with the beer and liquor . The majority of the people who leave D.R. are not as poor as you may think. I had not met one young or old working person that has not regretted leaving D.R. and found that contrary to the stories that lure them to immigrate and their new situations being worse. Sure, there are success stories of hard working individuals and I'm one of them. My family are also a success here in D.R. and had said they will never live in the U.S. To live on welfare is no success and to think that you can't make it in your own country is ignorance. My grandfather was poor and made lawyers and judges of his sons, we used to sweep the dirt, our floor.
