President Fernandez also tried to get a radar during U.S. ambassador Hans Hertell's tenure.

SANTO DOMINGO. - President Leonel Fernandez Friday morning said he’ll approve all extraditions to the U.S. that the Dominican Supreme Court sends him, but railed Washington for not providing a radar to help in the war on drugs.

The chief executive commented on the expected requests by United States to extradite senior military officers and political leaders, in connection with the case of the ex Dominican Army captain Quirino Paulino.

Fernandez, interviewed in the program El Dia by the journalists Huchi Lora and Patricia Solano, also acknowledged the participation of Dominican military and police in drug trafficking. “We must clean up the National Police and the Armed Forces, because those things are unacceptable."

He also said the United States provides little aid to Dominican Republic in the war on drugs. He said not to understand why the United States hasn’t provided the radar he said the country needs to detect drug-laden flights. "For example, if Dominican Republic doesn’t have a radar, it’s because they don’t provide the radar. I’ve never understood that part.

The Head of State said he believes the U.S.-Dominican standoff on the topic of the air surveillance radar has an explanation. “Clearly it’s a type of business, -if you want a radar, buy the radar- fine, but it’s a mutual cooperation, the radar isn’t just to protect us, we’re also going them to protect you because you’re also being affected by this."

LF, doesnt matter what electronic/hardware you have to fight the drug war, if their are rats minding the shop, you will never win, or even hope to be on a level playing field. WTF ! Sometimes for an intelligent man, you talk mucha m*erda. Start cleaning your own house, and quit blaming others for your country's shortfalls.

With all the drugs recaptured & assets seized by the RD Gov and DNCD you would think they could buy their own radar (if they can buy 8 planes).

Here is some history trivia, HippoLoco also wanted a donation of radar equipment and part of the proposal was to have an Army Captian Paulino and his team monitor activity back in year Y2k, just fyi. So, Juango makes a very valid point above.

Everytime DNCD captures drugs I know for a fact that most of the drugs (80%) are recycled locally into the drug pipeline. Once of the main recipients is a micro-trafficker with a street name of Choppo Pichardo from Ensanche Canoabo barrio in Santiago (near the Cibao Stadium & Children's Hospital).

Can someone please show Fannin the way out to the door!

This fool Lie-onel just doesn't get it. The US does not want to provide any assistance to you when you decide to start shooting down planes and accidentally shoot the wrong one.

Ask Chavez to buy it for you Leonel;
Or, during the next shipment of humanitarian releif to the Island of Socialist Paradise, Cuba; Attach a little note requesting a Russian or Chinese Communist Radar from the comandante.

Why ask the Imperialist Capitalist of Washington to fund your fiasco?

One thing that puzzles me is the three piece suit communists who dabble in free enterprise when it's to their advantage. I think you would look better in ropa de chamaco, camouflage gear next to Tiro Fijo, El Mono Jojoy, Comandante Cero, o' Boina Roja Chavez! But, not fronting in a suit?

Want radar? Buy radar. Very simple. Stop looking for a handout all the time.

I second Juanb's motion!

There's enough cash floating around for everyone to steal and cheat the citizenry of. Take some of that and buy the radar.

An investigation by the agency's inspector general finds that officials covered up details of the 2001 incident over Peru that killed two Americans and wounded three other people.

Most important pargraph of that article

"In many cases, suspect aircraft were shot down within two to three minutes of being sighted by the Peruvian fighter -- without being properly identified, without being given the required warnings to land, and without being given time to respond," the report said

DR never wanted to be independent. History shows that DR leaders were always shopping for a daddy.

LF will not attend inauguration

The Ministry of Foreign Relations says that President Leonel Fernandez will not be attending the inauguration of US President-elect Barack Obama on 20 January after all. Correcting earlier reports in the press, the ministry said that heads of state are not invited to the inauguration, only the chiefs of each diplomatic mission. As a result, President Fernandez will be represented at the ceremony by Ambassador Flavio Dario Espinal, who received an invitation from the US State Department.

josean,

Several heads of states will be in attendance. I would like you to give a credible source for your post. This sounds like a serious and juicy development. Leonel could be arrested for alleged drug involvement? Please tell me more......

Remember Lie-onel is (was) a Clinton Boot Licker, so it would not surprise me if he got the cold shoulder from the Obama transition team.

Especially after it was revealed Lie-onel had donated $25 million DOLLARS of Dominican TAXPAYER's MONEY to Slick Willie!
