Santo Domingo.- Navy chief Julio Cesar Ventura announced the “rotation” of 29 senior Navy officers to improve the entity’s effectiveness against the crimes of drug trafficking and illegal travel, and improve the education and health areas.

The Navy’s changes take place five months after it was rocked by the involvement of some of its officers in the August 4 killings of seven Colombians in Paya, Baní.

More than a dozen Navy officers are accused in the gangland style murders the authorities say are linked to drug trafficking.

Navy used against drug trafficking? That's a job for the Coast Guard? That's what happens when little boys that didn't have toys grow up and become officers; They never had soldaitos, you know! They use the wrong soldados for the wrong job. The Navy is to prevent naval invasions, and espionage. Since when does a yacht pose a threat? Now if they are smuggling drugs, or guns? I say use the Coast Guard. Again, a mistake of proportion to what's really required.

Some of these "officers" would have made good bachateros, carniceros, luchadores, boxeadores, bouncers, but, not officers in the armed forces.

P.S. The Drug Trade is an international conspiracy...Cuba used to control the biz until Colombia picked-up the baton with Carlos Lehder...Then, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, jumped in, then it was Aristide's Haiti, Ahora le toca a Quisqueya....One Narco-nation after the other at bat....Pichando.

Arsenio, I could be wrong, but I don't believe the DR has a "Coast Guard". They have to use the next best thing, the Dominican Navy.

Prevent Naval invasions. This is not science fiction. Exactly which naval invasion are you expecting?

The rotation is to ensure that every one of the 29 officers has a chance at obtaining ill gotten drugs / money so another example of selfishness like Bani' does not give the country another "black eye".

This drug trafficking business is well coordinated. There is no will or real desire to stop it. Too much corruption at government level.

Disband the arm forces and the 500 generals that steal money from it and the drug trafficking. Damn, what a Dominican pork barrel.

Elite, well trained, well paid special forces governed by the US DEA. Monitored and drug tested, rotated in and out of service. Dominicans are inbred with corruption as a moral value to aspire to.

I personally like "Bani eye".
