Santo Domingo. - The expected wave of criticism against the decision by lawmakers to limit the free access to beaches began early this morning, when the executive director of the non profit group Citizen Participation on Thursday said he regrets the National Assembly’s measure, and also the legislation which bars Dominicans from challenging certain laws of unconstitutional grounds
Javier Cabreja said when the Reform process concludes “the country will have a more backward Constitution than previous ones,” because the lawmakers “have turned their backs on the people.”
He said the assembly members’ attitude results from a mistaken vision of what they represent, and that their decisions must be based on the interests of the citizens. “The Constitution itself says the sovereignty rests on the people.”
Cabreja, interviewed in the television program El Dia, said the legislators cannot place their particular and business interests above those of the nation. “Where are the results of the popular consultation carried out, where were they thrown?” he asked rhetorically.

Does anyone actually believe that ANY politician cares more about his own pocket, than he cares about the good or the will of the people. It is good and proper that CP specak out but the are just wasting their time and money.

Unfortunately like in the United States the majority of our elected politicians are in the pockets of the rich and shameless.
Like puppets they are on the strings controlled by their masters.
These politicians could care less about the citizens they suppose to represent.
They are constantly stacking the deck against the people they suppose to be representing.
In my opinion they are an absolute disgrace to their positions.
It is extremely important to hold politicians accountable and watch them as closely as you would a sex offender around children.
If they continue to sell the blood of their people to the highest bidder they should be imprisoned or at the very least FIRED from politics permanently..

Although I do not know all the details of this proposed part of the constitution, I think it is important that the beaches remain open for the public, So how to change this ,I am sure I read that all future changes to the constitution must be done through referendum and I am sure if a question was posed to the public to change this in a referendum , it would gain the necessary majority.
It is dreadful to see so many of the beautiful beaches just for hotel guests. In the now closed hotel at Playa Grande ,the hotel guests walked down from the hotel to the beach and used it with the local population and it worked well and at las terrenas nearly all the beaches are shared by all ,
It is the same thing in so many countries where the beaches are closed off and it is sickening
